At the Eames Institute, we aim to equip everyone with the lessons of Ray and Charles Eames, so that anyone can use design to solve problems.

We are seeking a Digital Imaging Technician who is excited to join our team for a temporary one-year position. Under the direction of the Archives Manager, the Digital Imaging Technician will work collaboratively within the department to scan archival collections of varying formats, including oversize, photographic, and paper materials. The Digital Imaging Technician provides excellent service by facilitating access to collections through image capture. This is a great opportunity for someone who is a graduate student or a new professional with an interest in working with visual archives.

As the Digital Imaging Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Scanning physical 2D archival materials identified by Collections Team, including paper, photographs, slides and negatives
  • Image editing to capture preservation (TIFF) and access (JPEG) copy files 
  • Light metadata creation for each scanned item, including tagging using AAT, LOC and local metadata conventions
  • Organization of preservation and access copy files in local storage and DAMS

Who you might be:

You may have…

  • Coursework in an ALA-accredited MLIS degree (or equivalent degree) or in a related field such as Art History or Architecture 
  • Demonstrated consistent accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining a very high level of productivity
  • Experience handling archival materials
  • Experience using image capture and editing software, including Epson Scanning and Adobe Photoshop
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment

What you can expect:

  • Temporary position for approximately one-year employment

  • Base salary: $60,000 - $65,000
