The Assistant Controller works to ensure the completeness and accuracy of all transactions in the general ledger in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This includes all activities related to the accounting function: close procedures, preparation, review and analysis of accounting entries and transactions, maintaining a strong control environment and other activities necessary to support accurate and timely consolidated financial statements.

The ideal candidate will be able to grow in the position, with an eye toward assuming larger responsibilities over time, eventually becoming a candidate to succeed the CFO.

Requirements

Education: B.S. in Accounting or A.S. in Accounting combined with equivalent work experience

Skills:

  • CPA license desirable, but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Management Accounting techniques with emphasis on consolidations, multi-entity reporting, allocations and fixed asset accounting.
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment, managing multiple shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrate initiative and results focus; strong attention to detail and ability to critically assess information.
  • Aptitude in building relationships across various functional teams.
  • Expert level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, and programming critical data output from core transactional systems to create accounting entries that conform to the GL format requirements.
  • Ability to deal with confidential information in a professional manner and interact with all levels of management.
  • Must be organized and exude a positive image that reflects well on the organization.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills essential.

License: Must maintain a valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a desk for a majority of an eight-hour day.
  • Ability and strength to operate a computer keyboard, copy machine, printer, fax machines, and telephone.
  • Ability to lift small boxes of office supplies weighing up to twenty pounds.
  • Ability to climb one flight of stairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain consolidated chart of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts.
  • Responsible for preparation and review of monthly accounting close procedures to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal controls, as well as the accuracy of financial statements.
  • Preparation and review of journal entries.
  • Record, analyze and review inter- and intra- company transactions.
  • Review of trial balances and monthly trends; perform additional review as needed to support the close.
  • Analysis and review of operating company financial statements.
  • Preparation and review of high-quality account reconciliations.
  • Support a sustainable and efficient close and reporting process with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Prepare forms and manuals for accounting and bookkeeping personnel.
  • Advise management about issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
  • Oversee preparation of TMT’s, IFTA and other tax and regulatory filings as required.
  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Assist with tax returns in limited circumstances (outside of external CPA firm), ensuring compliance with payment, reporting and other tax requirements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
