    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
    A management level staff member who: conducts hearings for students who have been recommended for suspensions or expulsions, conducts hearings for anyone desiring to rebut the presumption that a student lives with his parent or court-appointed guardian and conducts attendance zone hearings to establish residency for school enrollment.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Schedules appointments with schools in the system for parents and students who have been recommended for long-term suspensions or expulsions;
    Conducts hearings for any student or parent who has a complaint regarding a suspension or expulsion;
    Reviews all suspension and expulsion forms submitted by the principal and sees that they are correctly filled out before the hearing is conducted and information is recorded;
    Assists in placing students in the most suitable alternative programs;
    Assists in formulating policies regarding student rights and discipline in the system and is totally familiar with the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook and Discipline Policy;
    Prepares various reports regarding students for the Superintendent’s office when required;
    Helps evaluate and restructure the Behavior Clinics so that they can positively function as “Alternatives to Suspensions” serving all middle and high schools as assigned by the Director of Child Welfare and Attendance;
    Assists with summer in-service for due process procedures involving suspensions and expulsions, as needed;
    Schedules appointments with anyone desiring to rebut the presumption that a student lives with his parents or court-appointed guardian;
    Conducts hearings for the school system for those students whose residence is being questioned;
    Conducts home visits to verify addresses and assist families with enrollment difficulties when directed by Director of Child Welfare and Attendance;
    Participates in department staff meetings;
    Explains the Consent Decree as it relates to residency requirements;
    Assigns students to school in the attendance zone where student is determined to reside as a result of an attendance zone hearing
    Assists in the development of forms to be used in carrying out duties;Prepares a brief written report of the results of the hearing which includes participants, reasons for conclusions, and assignment determined as a result of the hearingPerforms other duties as assigned by the Director of Child Welfare and Attendance.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a Valid Type A Louisiana Teacher’s Certificate , with a Master’s Degree and certification in Supervision and Administration or a MA Degree in criminal justice or corollary degree/experience in law. Must have experience working with parents, students, and school administrators. Must be proficient in oral and written communication skills. Must demonstrate maturity, judgment, and effective decision-making skills.
