What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Technician position at East Bay Municipal Utility District?
- The Position

Accounting Technicians perform various duties related to accounting, bookkeeping, and other financial and fiscal records within East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD's) Accounting Division. Accounting Technicians perform complex accounting work within four major units in the division:
*Accounting Systems
*General Ledger and Financial Reporting
*Property, Plant, and Equipment; Accounts Receivable; Cash Management
*Accounts Payable, Payroll
Accounting Technicians work closely with senior level accounting staff while learning to perform more professional and difficult accounting work. Responsibilities may include using Oracle Cloud Fusion Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and/or HRIS program modules in administering EBMUD accounting operations as well as providing technical and analytical support to professional accounting staff. Under general supervision, perform a variety of duties related to accounting, bookkeeping and other fiscal and financial records.
Duties include:
*Computing, compiling, processing, and verifying a variety of financial, statistical, and accounting data including manual and computerized reports
*Preparing queries, reports, records, correspondence, invoices, and other accounting and financial documents while ensuring accuracy and completeness
*Preparing and uploading journal entries
*Posting, balancing, and reconciling ledger accounts
*Processing computer-generated data and reconciling detailed subsidiary records to data processing control totals
*Assisting in the preparation of complex financial and accounting records, statements, and other documents
*Analyzing projects for cost elements, and maintaining complete and accurate EBMUD accounting records
*Operating office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and other digital devices
*Maintaining and reconciling a variety of financial, statistical, and accounting records; verifying accuracy and completeness, and arranging for corrections as necessary.
*Classifying and verifying data reported on various financial documents such as invoices, material documents, timesheets, etc.
*Providing factual information to EBMUD personnel from various work units, retirees, vendors, and contractors and others that requires knowledge and interpretation of rules, policies and procedures pertaining to work assignments.
The most competitive candidates will be knowledgeable about accounting and bookkeeping procedures, principles, and terminology; be familiar with MS Office software as well as financial information systems such as PeopleSoft HRIS, Oracle Cloud Fusion Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), or similar enterprise financial systems; be able to run queries and reports; have strong mathematic, prioritization, oral, and written communication skills; be able to make independent decisions; be highly organized and detail-oriented; ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment and be a team player and thrive in a collaborative environment.
The salary range is $7,492 per month increasing to $7,867, $8,260, $8,673, and $9,107 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

- Requirements
Typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge, skills and abilities are:
1.A high school diploma or its equivalent.
2a. Twelve or more college semester units in accounting; AND
2b. Three years of increasingly responsible experience in the preparation and maintenance of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, statistical, billing, or other financial records.
3.A valid California driver's license (for most positions) and satisfactory driving record.
4.Willingness to work overtime as needed.
5.Willingness and ability to perform the critical and important duties of the position including: sitting for long periods of time, looking at information on computer screens, hand-eye coordination to flip through documents while entering data on a PC; and upper body strength to lift up to 15 lbs. of boxed materials that may include computer printouts, reports, and ledgers.

- The Selection Process

3.Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.
4.The first 250 qualified applicants will be invited to a written test scheduled in mid to late August 2023.
5.Those candidates passing the written test will be invited to a panel interview, which may include a work sample project designed to further evaluate readiness for the position, expected to be conducted in early September 2023.
6.Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.
7.The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.
8.All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
