POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE: Under general supervision, apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior and interior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the district.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceiling.
- Select premixed paints and order as needed. Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray guns, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effect. Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
- Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.
- Pick up and deliver painting supplies to campuses as needed; maintain delivery records.
- Receive and complete work orders. Identify and complete needed painting on buildings, grounds, parking lots, and equipment using established inspection procedures. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment. Detected needed painting and touch up on building, grounds, parking lots, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. Coordinate and project manage interior and exterior painting projects. Schedule with contractors and district personnel for timelines.
- Respond to emergency and immediate calls as needed.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to make sure that equipment is in safe operation condition.
- Wear safety and protective gear (PPE) and equipment at all times.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any unsafe conditions.
- Follow established procedures for locking, checking and safeguarding equipment, tools, and facilities.
- Review, participate and complete all Safety Trainings.
- Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
- Perform other duties (Projects) as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification:
High School graduate or GED
Valid Texas Driver's license
Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade

Experience:
Work experience in painting field
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED: Painting and drywall tools and equipment including brush, roller, spray equipment, sand and water blaster, small hand tools, power tools and measuring tools; light truck and van.
WORK CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting; working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work around electrical power lines, outside and inside. Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving. Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) on a daily basis. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, fumes, odors, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; ability to work extended hours and occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travel.
