SALARY: Entry Level: $41,700 per year
Full Performance: $44,652 per year
The Outpatient Clinical Assistant is a valuable member of our team. This position will be responsible to assist the clinical licensed staff by performing a variety of tasks to ensure that necessary nursing care and related technical work are provided and performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify, you must meet all the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences are credited based on a 40-hour work week.
PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY LEVEL
Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities: One (1) year of work experience which involved independently observing and reporting a variety of physical and/or mental symptoms and conditions and implementing care and/or treatment procedures for a caseload of patients. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing skills (i.e., taking vital signs, measuring output, recognition of abnormal signs and symptoms, etc.); first aid; patients’ rights; universal precautions; infection control; body mechanics; basic medical and nursing terminology; and the ability to read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English; follow oral and written instructions precisely; and assist in providing paraprofessional nursing care to patient receiving care on an outpatient basis. Clinic experience preferred.
PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR FULL PERFORMANCE
Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities: In addition to the entry level qualifications, one (1) year of progressively responsible work experience in an outpatient clinic or similar health institution setting receiving formal and/or on-the-job training in outpatient medical/surgical practices, techniques, procedures, equipment and supplies, and applying the knowledge gained by assisting professional nurses in the provision of care to outpatient patients. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of emergency medical practices, techniques and procedures, functional anatomy and human physiology.
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED: Completion of a professional nursing curriculum from an accredited school substitutes for the experience required for the entry level. Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript of diploma) should be submitted with the application to be given credit for education. A legible photocopy will be accepted. However, Hilo Medical Center reserves the right to request an official copy.
CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current certification in BLS Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Please submit copy of certification with the application.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to handle emergency situations calmly; ability to communicate and work effectively with distraught or agitated individuals.
Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays, based on hospital operations (services are provided 24/7).
MEDICAL/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two-step tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for physical examinations, except the cost for drug screening, shall be borne by the applicant and not the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
