Job Summary

The AD will be responsible for the coordination of scheduling of all athletic events and officials, ensuring the effective administration of all high school conference athletic rules and regulations (FHSAA and PCC) and East Hill Christian School’s policies, and hiring/training/equipping high quality coaches. The AD will develop strong relationships with and garner the support of coaches, parents, and members of the community in order to effectively promote all school athletic programs and positively represent EHCS’s athletic programs internally and throughout the community.

The AD selects coaches with the approval of the Headmaster. This person is responsible for developing and maintaining the athletic program. Coaches assigned to the athletic department are responsible to the AD in matters relating to instruction and coaching.

The AD shall be one who is committed to his/her work as a God-given ministry. He/She shall be of outstanding Christian character and witness, shall possess a sound Christian philosophy of education, be competent in supervision, have a good understanding of Biblical teaching, and understands and can relate to students, parents, coaches, and administration.

Qualifications

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Experience as an Athletic Director as well as coaching experience
  • Experience in and knowledge of secondary (high school and middle school) athletic program administration, program development, and personnel management
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred degree in Sports Management or Physical Education
  • Preferred minimum of five years of experience as an athletic director

  • Ability to work and cooperate with staff members, administrators, parents and students
  • Strong communication and administrative skills
  • Ability to build strong/positive mentoring relationship with students
  • Passion for excellence in all areas of athletics
  • Qualify for and maintain appropriate credentials/certifications, including ACSI AD Certification, NIAAA Certification (or other comparable accredited organization)
  • Ability to understand and comply with FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) and PCC (Panhandle Christian Conference) rules & regulations
  • Knowledge and experience coaching multiple sports
  • Commitment to Christian education

Responsibilities as Athletic Director

A. Administration

The AD is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the athletic department. The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

· Assign and supervise all coaches after assisting in their selection.

· Conduct an in-person assessment and evaluation of each of the EHCS coaches.

· Arrange rental facilities for off-site team practices and games.

· Work with the coaches in planning and scheduling games, practice periods, gyms, athletic fields, and related activities.

· Supervises and participates in the preparation of facilities for all home contests.

· Contract with officials for all interscholastic games.

· Requisition and allocate equipment, supplies, and awards within the scope of the approved budget.

· Observe and evaluate coaches and students at practice sessions and games in order to assess team building morale and best practices.

· Select and train efficient student managers, and maintain statistics and records of the teams and individual accomplishments.

· Be aware of and meet all requirements of leagues and/or athletic associations (PCC & FHSAA) in which membership is held.

· Keep the administration aware of conference decisions, school team accomplishments and problems needing administrative help.

· Act as the school representative at athletic conferences, being sensitive to the school’s philosophy and goals.

· Pursue opportunities for hosting post-season tournaments, and then coordinate all the details for running a successful tournament.

· Schedule and assign school busses for all athletic events and communicate those assignments to coaches. Ensure that buses are clean and fueled for trips.

· Schedules the practices and games for every team in the program with assistance from Head Coaches.

· Organize and arrange for all team photos for teams, individuals and yearbook.

· Oversees the inventory of athletic equipment and maintains equipment used in the programs.

· Organizing and supervising the gates, parking, seating, and crowd control at home contests to ensure safety and sportsmanship.

· Works with head coaches to organize the Sports Award Banquets and Celebrations.

· Orders necessary awards and maintains records of achievement, statistically and individually.

· Supervise the inventory and management of athletic equipment including cleaning, repairing, distributing and collecting of all uniforms at end of season. This includes the ordering and managing of replacement uniforms.

· To oversee and approve the eligibility of all student athletes including physical examinations and transfer students required paperwork.

· Coordinate and work with the elementary and middle school athletics programs.

· Create (with Board Approval) and oversee the athletic department budget and along with the Headmaster, approve any spending out of the Athletic Department budget.

· Evaluates current coaching staffs and makes recommendations for improvements or changes.

· Oversees hiring of any open coaching position.

· Casts the vision for the mission of the athletic program.

· Acquires continuous new knowledge of the profession by attending clinics and continuing education in fields that are practical

· Other Possible Responsibilities: Teaching PE or other courses (depending on degree and qualifications), and coordinating with the PE department to collaborate on equipment, schedules, and facilities

B. Supervision

The Athletic Director has the responsibility for the supervision of coaches of all teams approved and sponsored by the school.

· Provide leadership through personal counsel, emails, and in-service training in Christian philosophy, coaching know-how, and techniques for all sports.

· Observe coaches and assist in their handling of day-to-day problems of planning practices, teaching the skills and strategy of the sport and the handling of the individual athlete.

· Establish guidelines for coaches and students concerning personal conduct, attitudes, morale and discipline, and continuously evaluate in light of school policy and biblical teaching.

· Encourage and provide leadership in professional growth.

· Communicate with coaches and families when academic and conduct eligibility issues arise.

C. Inspiration

The Athletic Director will integrate spiritual truth and life into the entire program.

· Think through and articulate a Christian philosophy of athletics and interpret this to coaches, students and spectators.

· Establish specific spiritual goals, establish biblical priorities, and constantly evaluate the process and products of the program.

· Establish a devotional and prayer life with each coach and team.

D. Promotion

The Athletic Director will be responsible for the promotion of the school and the athletic program to the community at large.

· Print and distribute schedules of all games and activities.

· Report results and accomplishments of teams through school newsletters and local new media.

· Recognize student effort and accomplishments through an awards program.

E. Booster Club

As an ex-officio member, the Athletic Director shall work closely with the officers to ensure programs that meet the needs of the school families and to encourage strong spiritual leadership within the organization. The Athletic Director will work in coordination with the Booster Club for the planning of dates and food for the Fall, Winter, and Spring Sports Banquets.

Benefits

Job Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $37,000.00 to $42,000 /year

Employer will cover 100% of both dental and vision coverage.

Paid Time Off: 72 hours for full time employees.

Employer covers 100% of Student Tuition and Registration Fees K-12
