Position Title: Math Coach

Department: Mathematics

SUMMARY:

Provides leadership, coaching, and consulting in the development, implementation, and support of

all grade levels in accordance with the district policies to ensure improved staff performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of mathematics staff in
accordance with district policies to ensure improved staff performance.
  • Supervises and monitors the development, implementation, and ongoing modification of all
mathematics curriculum.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates a comprehensive and continuing professional
development program in mathematics.
  • Plans and provides assistance in implementing all intervention programs in
mathematics.
  • Provides guidance and direction in the selection, development, and modification of all
mathematics resources, and the application of educational technology to improve mathematics

instruction.

  • Prepares guidance maintaining appropriate records, budgets, and reports for the mathematics
programs.
  • Provides effective communication on mathematics programs to the Principals,
Superintendent, staff, parents, and community groups/agencies.
  • Participates in the collaborative development and implementation of school-based
improvement plans and interdisciplinary curricular programs designed to integrate the

academic and special subject content areas.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of grants to support math program
development.
  • Is involved in school and/or district-wide issues or initiatives.
  • Exhibits professional and ethical behavior as presented in the NEA/CEA Code of
Ethics for the Education Profession.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Administrator for Program Improvement.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises teachers, students and paraprofessionals.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors and Masters degree in education.

  • Minimum five years teaching experience in the area of mathematics.
  • Ability to transfer current research findings in mathematics into practice.
  • Experience in mathematics curriculum development and implementation, in
alignment of instruction with testing, and in curriculum-related teacher training.
  • Demonstrated leadership in improving all aspects of mathematics instruction on a
district-wide scale.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify effective instructional resources to support curriculum
requirements.
  • Experience in working effectively with teachers, administrators, parents, and community
groups.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency.
  • Ability to work in large, complex organizations.
  • Proficient in human relations skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical

procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and

procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of

managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and

fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as

fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to

interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with

several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid teaching certificate; Highly Qualified according to Federal Guidelines.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and

implement lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to

whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers,

parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication. Ability

to operate photocopying, fax machines and computers. Ability to assume responsibility for

supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to perform duties

with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear

and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the

average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up

to 50 lbs. such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. The employee is directly responsible for the

safety, well-being, or work output of other people.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed

material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands

from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently
