Title: Manager/Director of Policy & Strategy


The Manager/Director of Policy & Strategy is responsible for developing East Point’s policy strategies across various markets, spearheading advocacy/coalition building work in priority markets to advance the company’s strategic interests, and leading the company’s analysis and research of policy in support of our team’s efforts across all business units. The Manager/Directorof Policy & Strategy will engage all domains of policy, including legislative, regulatory, and wholesale market efforts at the state and federal levels, as well as work actively on ISO/RTO efforts.   The position will initially report directly to the CEO. The level of the role (Director or Manager) will depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Track and build policy strategies to support East Point’s energy storage goals on three fronts:
    • Federal: trade, tariffs, IRA, ITC, FERC/NERC, etc.
    • State: revenue, permitting reform, and taxes
    • ISO/RTOs: market and interconnection queue design and reforms
  • Assess the impact of prospective legislative and regulatory policies on the company’s business and synthesize and coordinate with the project development, business development, EPC, asset management, and accounting teams
  • Lead East Point’s external policy engagement with industry peers and groups, policymakers, and other key stakeholders
  • Manage and update corporate strategy
  • Serve as liaison with East Point’s parent company, Equinor, on market strategy and policy-related items
  • Create siting strategies to identify opportunities for East Point’s organic and inorganic pipeline
  • Utilize internal resources and third-party partners to evaluate strategic opportunities within current and future markets
  • Track alternative technologies (such as non-lithium energy storage, solar, green hydrogen, onshore wind) and adjust strategic recommendations accordingly
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned

 

Education/Qualifications/Skills:

  • 4-year university degree, BS or BA, Masters degree preferred
  • 4 years' experience of energy industry experience, regulatory and/or legislative experience with a clear track record of success
  • Experience managing and working collaboratively with lobbyists, trade associations, industry partners, and consultants
  • Direct experience in project development, business development, a utility, and/or government preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.) and Salesforce
  • Ability to communicate across a broad spectrum of technical understanding - written, verbal, and non-verbal
  • Public speaking experience

Travel & Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 10% of time will be on the road; will vary based on status of projects
  • This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Standard office hours are from 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM EST. The demands of projects may require work outside of these times.

Location:

East Point Energy office in Charlottesville, VA preferred. We are potentially open to hybrid or remote work candidates who are willing to travel often to the East Point Energy offices.
