What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Support Specialist Supervisor position at East Toledo Family Center?

The East Toledo Family Center (ETFC) is the anchor organization in the East Toledo community. We provide programs and services that help ages from birth to seniors. We educate, engage and empower our families and community to make their own change. Healthy Families America (HFA- our foundation for Help Me Grow Home Visiting) is one of the leading family support and evidence-based home visiting programs in the United States. We believe early, nurturing relationships are the foundation for healthy development.

The Supervisor will have weekly supervision time for each staff member, with a minimum of one and ½ hours allotted for each session. Guided by the Standards, this time should be directed at assisting staff to support families in developing realistic and effective support plans that will develop their capacity to become empowered to meet their (the families) objectives/goals; to understand why a family may not be making the expected progress and determine effective methods of intervention; and to allow the staff to express their concerns/frustrations in working with overburdened communities and families to avoid burnout.

The Supervisor will also be responsible for taking on 8-12 families during their course as a Supervisor & Home Visitor until site is able to obtain and hire more home visitors. As a home visitor job duties include but are not limited to:

Home Visiting 90%

Develops strategies to positively engage families in voluntary services through a trusting relationship.
Schedules and provides regular home visits with families
Conduct ongoing screens and assessments such as the ASQ and other tools required by the program.
Implements research based curriculum, Growing Great Kids, during home visits with families.
Supports and guides families in the development of the Family Goal Plan, and encourages families in achieving identified goals.
Refers and connects families to additional services and other community resources that could help strengthen the family and build protective factors.
Documents observations of children and families through weekly home visit notes and completes requirement documentation in accordance with program expectations.
Meets weekly with program manager for supervision to reflect on work with families and review interventions and documentation.

Other Duties 10%

Completes training required by program including Foundations for Family Success, Growing Great Kids, and other required topics.
Assists with outreach through community fairs and other events that help build awareness of program.
Attends regular team meetings and participates in supporting other team members as needed.

The Supervisor may also act as a liaison with other agencies and monitor contracts as well as ongoing program development. The Supervisor usually functions as the team leader, conducting team meetings, planning groups, collaboration with other directors within the agency and provides daily support and crisis management.

Required:

· Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in related field (Social Work, Early Childhood, Education) with 3 years of relevant experience

· Experience with family services that embrace the concepts of family-centered and strength-based service provision.

· Experience in supervising and motivating staff, as well as providing support to staff in stressful work environments. Experience with reflective supervision practice preferred.

· Knowledge of infant and child development and parent-child attachment

· Knowledge of maternal-infant health and dynamics of child abuse and neglect

· A solid understanding of or experience in supervising and motivating staff, as well as providing support in stressful working environments

· Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel

· Regular ongoing training - held virtually at this time

· Required back ground check and Valid U.S. license (DMV check)

- May be called upon to work beyond normal working hours; must be reachable by phone during supervised staff's working hours

-Experience with early childhood development, social work and/or working with at-risk families

-Required to maintain car insurance for bodily injury & property damage Liability coverage of $100,000 each person/$300,000 each accident/$50,000 each accident.

Location:

  • Lincoln Elementary School will be the location in Tiffin, Ohio. However; the East Toledo Family Center in Toledo, Ohio serves as the home base location where the majority of team meetings, weekly supervision and all other meetings will take place. During the training process, the new hire will be required to spend the majority of their time in Toledo, Ohio shadowing staff. After trained and prepared to take on all job duties, staff will be required to come to the Toledo base location for a minimum of once a week.
