Aspire Instructor

The ASPIRE Instructor is responsible for providing classroom instruction to adults studying, to earn a high school equivalency diploma, improve academic skills before entering a career program or college, and for personal or employment reasons.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for support of all services offered through the Workforce Department.
• Instructor must use one-on-one, group, lecture, and technology methods to instruct adults functioning at different levels of ability in different subjects, all in the same room.
• Instructor may be asked to teach developmental language or mathematics courses at the College.
• Follow daily lesson plans created in accordance with aspire ABE/ASE standards, benchmarks, and curricula.
• Establish rapport with students and maintain a friendly, non-threatening classroom atmosphere.
• Show respect for cultural and ethnic differences.
• Participate in day or evening orientation and registration for new students throughout the year.
• Administer approved assessments in accordance with ASPIRE regulations.
• Open and close the classroom site.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of student records and information.
• Attend ASPIRE staff meetings and complete required ASPIRE professional development within designated timeframes.

The above duties are not all-inclusive; rather they illustrate the type of work assigned to a position incumbent. All listed duties are considered essential functions of the job. Responsible to participate in implementing, coordinating, and documenting activities as they relate to the position.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Associate’s Degree is required.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Experience teaching and tutoring adults.
  

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Learn College policies and procedures.
• Exercise sound judgment.
• Work effectively and efficiently under pressure while meeting deadlines.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of office management techniques and modern office procedures.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics, algebra, and geometry.
• Knowledge of language arts from basic literacy to twelfth grade level.
