Position Overview

NOTE : This position is funded through an external grant. Continued employment beyond the fiscal year is contingent upon continued funding.

POSITION SUMMARY :

This is a full-time, twelve-month position. If qualified, the position would be a professional faculty position, that, in addition to a teaching course load (if qualified) will collaborate with ENMU-Roswell faculty to plan, develop, and implement a livestock judging program.

If not qualified as faculty, the position would be a professional staff. As such, this position will consist of, but not limited to, outreach, mentoring, and coaching students for the ENMU-Roswell Livestock Judging Program throughout the year as well as coordinating ENMU-Roswell's Guided Pathways activities as identified in the Cultivating Success Initiative (CSI) Grant.

The position is expected to have evening and weekend work, and travel will be required for practice and contests in and out of state.

In addition to teaching and coaching responsibilities you will also be expected to contribute to other aspects of our academic mission in areas consistent with the individual's training, interests, and needs of the College.

This position reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences Education.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Teach up to three (3) courses each Fall and Spring semester (if qualified).
  • Develop and coach a nationally competitive livestock evaluation judging team.
  • Assume fiscal responsibility for the judging programs.
  • Host livestock judging contests and clinics for the ENMU-Roswell, 4-H, and FFA programs, as well as assisting with other judging / Career Development Events (CDE) contests hosted in the surrounding region.
  • Serve as a trusted member of the faculty and foster positive relationships with faculty, college, and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with the Agriculture Program Coordinator to support the Ag Advisory Board for the development and implementation of all Ag programs and articulation agreements with four-year universities for Agriculture and related programming.
  • Outreach to both public and private high schools for all of ENMU-Roswell's Guided Pathways, in addition to 4-H programs, FFA programs, state FFA / 4-H Conventions, regional, state, and national livestock shows for ENMU-Roswell's Agriculture programs and judging team.
  • Work with CSI team members to promote ENMU-Roswell's initiatives for student outreach, retention, graduation, and transfer for all Guided Pathways.
  • Perform other Cultivating Success Initiative assignments as coordinated by the Dean of Arts and Sciences Education, CSI Activity Director, VPASA, and / or President.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or closely related agriculturally based field (if a candidate does not have a master's degree, one will need to be earned within 3 years of employment).
  • Livestock judging team experience.
  • Evidence of being a successful team worker, able to foster a welcoming environment, ability to meet, interact and communicate with students, colleagues, staff, and other pertinent stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with or supporting diverse populations.
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master's degree (at time of employment) with an emphasis in an agricultural related field.
  • Evidence of teaching experience either in formal and / or informal settings, preferably at an institution of higher education.
  • Evidence of success in coaching livestock or meats at a collegiate level.
  • Experience working in a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), or with first-generation students.

Working Conditions

Occasional and / or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.

but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards, which may result in cuts, bruises, etc.

A successful candidate will be expected to meet routine deadlines (usually with sufficient lead time) as well as navigate variance in work volume seasonal and predictable.

There will be priorities with some interruptions, with occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.

Job frequently requires standing, sitting, talking, and hearing.

Job occasionally requires walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 80 pounds.

Work is performed in a non-smoking facility.
