What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager of Speech Therapy position at Easterseals?
JOB TYPE: Full-Time
LOCATION: Bloomington or Peoria Service Center
Position Objective: The Manager of Speech Therapy is responsible for overall leadership and management of the assigned Speech and Feeding service lines to include: alignment with best practices, compliance, and assurance procedures/protocols. The manager completes documentation, reporting, and analysis of department metrics with follow-up action plans. The manager participates in quality improvement projects to maintain/increase referrals, customer satisfaction, etc. In conjunction with the Manager of Client Financial Services, the manager follows insurance or funder changes and makes recommendations for updates as needed. The manager also provides evaluation and treatment within their licensed/credentialed field.
Job Functions:
- Works collaboratively with Programs Services leadership to ensure consistency in service, training, quality assurance, and supervision across the disciplines.
- Oversees the hiring, mentorship, supervision, and performance management of staff in responsible areas.
- Assists with monitoring performance in the areas of schedule saturation and billable time.
- Ensures quality assurance through the development of programs that match evaluation recommendations, timely updates to clients’ programs and treatment/intervention plans, outcome data, and supervision requirements.
- Works as or with the CentralReach clinical Subject Matter Expert to ensure clinical documentation is being completed per Easterseals policies and procedures.
- Assists with CARF accreditation/Early Intervention audits to ensure successful re-accreditations and audits
- Assists in the development and execution of strategic plans related to responsible areas.
- Responsible for the performance management of department staff including completion of performance evaluations, performance improvement plans, and employee disciplinary reports as needed.
- Responsible for the professional development of department staff including the approval of continuing education requests and ensuring staff is up-to-date on the latest findings in their fields.
Marginal Responsibilities:
- Reviews client charts within their supervised department as indicated by Program Services policies.
- Assists VP of Clinical Services in the areas of policy development and deployment, department budgeting, and contract negotiations as requested.
- Coordinates with Human Resources and external Fieldwork/Clinical Coordinators from various universities to accept and place interns and practicum students within responsible areas.
- Attends case studies, Program Services meetings, and completes documentation
- Participates on the Program Services and Safety Committee as requested
- Maintains awareness of trends, evidence-based practices, and outcome measurement systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree, or higher, from an accredited university in Speech-Language Pathology. Credential/licensure must be active or eligible for licensure. Early Intervention credential preferred but not required
- Education and/or experience in Health Services Administration or Business Management preferred but not required.
- Minimum five years of experience working with children with developmental disabilities/delays and their families, preferred.
- Minimum three years of experience in a leadership role or working on project teams, preferred.
Competency Requirements
- Ensures client and family confidentiality by complying with Easterseals policy and procedure, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accessibility Act) requirements, and any other privacy requirements as may be specified by referral sources, funders, or other licensing and regulatory entities.
- Advanced knowledge and skill necessary to independently provide evaluations and treatment plans related to credentialed/licensed field of practice.
- Comprehensive understanding of accreditation requirements related to outcomes data collection, reporting, and communication.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and software (MS Office Suite).

- Ability to drive to all Easterseals centers and service sites within a 100-mile radius, as needed.

- Routinely works in office environments with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature.

- Client homes for direct service activities.
- Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
