About this job:
A middle school wrestling coach is responsible for teaching and coaching middle school students in the sport of wrestling.
Wrestling is a physically demanding sport that requires a great deal of discipline, strength, and endurance. Middle school wrestling coaches play an important role in helping students develop these skills, as well as their character.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a practice plan that teaches students the fundamentals of wrestling, including takedowns, escapes, turns, and pins.
- Coach students during practices and competitions.
- Monitor the academic progress of students and provide support as needed.
- Serve as a role model and mentor to students.
- Promote the sport of wrestling and the wrestling team at the school.
- Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of wrestling fundamentals and strategies.
- Experience coaching wrestling at the youth or middle school level preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Commitment to the safety and well-being of students.
- In addition to the above qualifications, it is also desirable for a middle school wrestling coach to have the following:

What You'll Do:
Teach fundamental and advanced athletic skills to athletes in order to prepare them for competition.
- Knowledgeable about sports equipment, physical fitness, and safety.
- Become an expert on the rules, strategies, and techniques required for the sport.
- Support the coordination and recruitment of student participants.
The role of the Coach is to lead and organize the program at Eastpointe High School. Candidates are responsible for conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in event strategies and techniques while making sure that the student athletes and coaches are compliant with school and MHSAA rules, regulations and requirements set forth. Maintaining that all safety measures are strictly followed.
Other Functions
- Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other appropriate administrator
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the sport and rules.
- Experience as a coach is preferred.
- Experience coaching and/or playing at the high school level.
- The individual being sought must possess strong personal ethics, be a positive professional role model, and demand from athletes a high standard of conduct and discipline.
- Effective communication skills with athletes, coaches, parents, and administration a must.
- Have a current CPR Certification or the ability to obtain one prior to coaching
- Have previous coaching experience or experience working with urban youth and or teaching experience (preferred but not required)
- Lead for educational excellence, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
- Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demand of the position
