  • Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment using individualized, age specific, evidence based, professional care. Follows scope of practice and approved medical staff clinical privileges for specialty of practice.
  • Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
  • Provide follow-up care of patients, refer them to other providers, and interpret diagnostic test results.
  • Communicate in a way the patient and/or family will understand to: Answer and advise on any other questions or concerns the patient and/or family might have. Educate and inform patient/family of necessary treatment plan and any necessary follow-up appointments.
  • Collaborate with physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and other health professionals.
  • Completes all medical record documentation appropriately and timely after each patient encounter.
  • Assists with clinical chart review to ensure policies and evidence based practice standards are being followed.
  • Uses information technology resources to support patient care decisions and patient education. Practices cost-effective health care and resources allocation that does not compromise quality of care. Applies medical information and clinical data systems to provide more effective, efficient patient care.
  • Is a mentor to all staff and portrays a professional role model. Manages up coworkers and leaders.
  • Follows relevant local, state and federal laws and judicial decisions applicable to the conduct of professional obligations.
  • EXPECTATIONS OF PHYSICIANS
    • ADMINISTRATION
      • Participate in the research, development and writing of policies, protocols and practice guidelines
      • Implement all policies and procedures as they pertain to patient care
      • Organize, direct and integrate the clinic with all other departments and services within the hospital, where seen necessary
      • Promote a cooperative and collaborative working environment among the clinical disciplines involved in patient care
      • Maintain an effective working relationship with the medical staff, clinic management, administration and other departments
      • Collaborates with Department Leadership in assessing needs for equipment, supplies, budget, etc
      • Oversee, participate in and develop projects that ensure the cost-effectiveness of care provided by physicians and advanced practice practitioners and hospital
    • INITIATIVES
      • Collaborate with the Department Leadership to establish goals and objectives consistent with those of the hospital and ensure they are being met.
      • Develop and provide input on the development and maintenance of practice guidelines, policies and methodologies for care.
      • Participate in site review by regulatory agencies.
      • Organize, direct and implement departmental practices to assure continued compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
      • Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationship with colleagues, referral providers, hospital personnel, and patients/families in order to achieve maximum operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction
      • Attend local and national meetings and conferences to remain current regarding issues relevant to the performance of duties
      • Demonstrate consistent, efficient, cost effective and quality care at all times
    • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT
      • Monitor compliance of clinical care guidelines, policies and protocols.
      • Assure that the quality and appropriateness of patient care are monitored and evaluated and that appropriate actions based on findings are taken on a consistent basis.
      • Report quality of care issues promptly to appropriate individuals, including Emergency Department Leadership and/or hospital administration.
      • Consult with appropriate medical staff and administration regarding quality care issues and adverse outcomes; identify areas to improve patient care.
      • Assure that continuum of care is maintained.

        • Participate in hospital outreach activities as requested by administration.
