Assistant Professor - Music

The Department of Music at Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, the primary focus of which will be to lead the string and orchestral areas of our program.

The Department of Music is accredited by NASM and offers a Bachelor of Music degree with three emphases (performance, music education, and music with elective studies in an outside field), as well as graduate programs in performance, music education, and conducting. Duties and Responsibilities 

• Direct the Southeast Kansas Symphony, a university/community ensemble
• Teach applied music in the string area (upper strings preferred)
• Teach orchestral conducting at the graduate level
• Take leadership role with the community-based symphony board
• Participate actively in the recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students 
• Duties may also include other assignments that align with the candidate's qualifications

Faculty members are expected to be active in performance, research and/or other creative activities, and service to the department, college, university, and community.

Qualifications 

• Doctorate preferred
• Will consider candidates in final stages of doctoral program (completion within 1-2 years)
• Successful experience in orchestral conducting and applied string teaching
• Demonstrated excellence in scholarship and creative activity 
• Ability to build relationships with area string programs

• Ability to relate well with students and faculty in a regional institution within an    environment of shared governance 

Job Type:  Unclassified, Faculty, Tenure-Earning, 9-month appointment
