An Automation Engineer works alongside our operations and engineering teams to design, build, program and deploy custom automated equipment and solutions for every application, process and industry. Our goal is to exceed expectations and ensure our customers receive an exceptional experience at Eckhart.   
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Work cross functionally with all departments during all phases of the project including de-bug and runoff.
  • Independently handles the engineering, programming, integration and commissioning of the following:
     
  1. PLC logic, servo motion and HMI displays utilizing applicable software
  2. Robotic systems (most common robotic brands include Fanuc, Kuka, Motoman, Universal Robotics, etc.)
  3. Vision systems to perform part recognition, part position, robot guidance, and quality inspections (most common vision systems used are Fanuc 2D and 3D iR Vision, Keyence, and Cognex)
  4. Safety circuits and controllers
     
 
 
 
  • Assists with the training and development of entry level engineers and technicians
  • Assembles mechanical and electrical components as needed.
  • Must be able to travel within the continental US.
  • Willing to travel a minimum of 25% of work year.
  • When necessary, participate in classes and training seminars to learn new technologies and techniques deemed helpful to performance on the job.
  • All other tasks/projects as assigned by leadership
 
Other skills and abilities:
  • Develop system drawings using AutoCAD to produce engineering and production documentation as required
  • Offline robot programming
  • Ability to troubleshoot existing installations
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Working knowledge of personal computer, keyboard, and software programs
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and work with limited supervision
  • Good presentation skills
  • Ability to explain how and why specific conclusions were reached

Qualifications:
 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be professional, proactive, and positive.  Having a passion for exceptional customer service and support is a must.  Being sensitive to the unpredictable demands and uncertainties associated with customer service is a requisite to delivering superior results and exceeding the expectations of very demanding customers.
Education and/or Experience: 
Four-year degree in engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing or Electrical) or a related field is preferred.  Minimum (3) years experience of working with controls or programming robotics is required. Non-degreed applicants should have at least (8) years of related experience.
