Ecolab has an immediate need of a Staff Chemical Engineer for its Nalco-Water Downstream RD&E sector within the Global Industrial group. This research professional will be responsible for certain capital project management, scale-up process development, and technology transfer of specialty chemical processes supporting multiple divisions worldwide. What You Will Do
Manage capital projects up to $500,000 for new or modified pilot plant facilities, including project scope, process/equipment design, procurement and installation.
Perform engineering analysis and detailed process design for process development, scale-up process development, insource products and transfers, troubleshoot and optimize process and products to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Plan and coordinate scale-up activities between lab and plant scale batches for new products and follow through the first manufacturing batch.
Support pilot plant operations through preventative maintenance and equipment reliability improvements.
Provide effective leadership and communication to department personnel as needed to create an atmosphere that fosters collaborative teamwork, creativity, and innovation. Build rapport and strong relationships with all levels of the organization.
Review and assign projects to team members to ensure safe and successful scale-up of new & transfer products.
Support ISO, PSM, PHA, HAZOP and all other company sponsored safety programs.
Identify opportunities and lead improvement efforts focused on the operations activities and pilot plants equipment and infrastructure.
Coordinate problem batch resolution with plants engineers and QA personnel as needed to minimize/reduce plants off-spec inventory.
Provide engineering technical input on projects/operations.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Engineering, or Sciences from an accredited University
8 years experiences in project management, process scale-up development and production batch processing.
Track record on problem solving and continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering with 5 years of experience
Relevant experience in the process development and scale up of new product, pilot or manufacturing environment and supervisory experience in a chemical manufacturing environment in a related industry.
Experience with relevant technical subset utilized in process development, design and scale-up of chemical processes.
Statistical analysis and certified black belt a plus
Capital Project experiences.
The candidate must be able to flourish as part of multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams in multi-tasking environment.
Experience performing mass and energy balance calculations.
Demonstrates independent thinking and strong decision-making skills.
Excellent writing and presentation skills
Ability to plan, execute, and lead concurrent projects and delegating work and project as applicable.
Experience as a mentor and passionate about training others and serving as a resource to less experienced engineers.
