Job Description
A Metso Process Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating the pentahydrate and anhydrous units and all associated auxiliary equipment and for helping to coordinate the activities of the Metso Packaging Operator.
The Metso Process Operator must possess the knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviors needed to safely and efficiently operate the metasilicate units with respect for the safety and health of employees and the environment.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Co-ordinate the activities of the Metso Packaging Operator based on operational needs.
- Inform maintenance of mechanical needs
- Unit housekeeping.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Responsible for regular and consistent attendance.
- Understand PQ Principles (PQP) and how they are implemented in the site organization, rules and procedures.
- Other duties as directed.
- These duties are not all-inclusive.
Job Responsibilities - Operations
- Start up, operate, and shut down of either unit.
- Start up, operate and shut down the boiler.
- Start up, operate and shut down the air compressors.
- Start up, operate and shut down both air conditioners.
- Pumping M-50 / M-60 liquors and strong water to the evaporator, as well as to and from the tank farm as needed.
- Open valves and follow procedures for silicate transfers.
- Monitor oil levels on pumps, steam generator, crystallizer and dryer.
- Add chemicals to the boiler water treatment system.
- Start up, operate and shut down the evaporator.
- Brush screens as needed.
- Clean vacuum lines as needed.
- Clean strong water filters.
- Grease specified equipment.
- Collect production samples.
- Rework Product
- Assist downstairs (packaging) operator when needed with all associated responsibilities.
- Read and understand all written procedures, and all safety and environmental aspects of the job.
- Properly complete permits before work begins.
- These duties are not all-inclusive.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous manufacturing / warehousing experience (2 years)
- Basic mathematical abilities and skills
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Outlook, and Word)

Special Factors
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, hourly. The process is a 24 / 7 / 365 operation.
