Job Description – Gluer Operator

The Gluer Operator job function reports to the Finishing Manager.

Required General Skills and Abilities

  • Comply with and enforce GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice).
  • Ensure that the responsibilities established in this job description contribute to the quality, safety, legality and integrity of the products we manufacture at Edelmann USA.
  • Act, demonstrate, and encourage the Edelmann USA Mission Statement.

4. The employee must be safety conscious; have a good safety record, be aware of potential risks and hazards at all times.

5. The employee must know and understand the importance of producing only top-quality products for our customers, that meet or exceed their specifications at all times.

6. The employee must be dependable; come to work on time daily or report any failure to do so in a timely manner.

7. The employee must be able to read and use a micrometer.

8. The employee needs to have basic math skills; know how to use a calculator and be proficient in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

9. The employee should be able to read, write and communicate in English at an acceptable level.

10. The employee should have good mechanical skills; have a basic understanding of machinery in general and be familiar with specific tools used in the operation of our equipment.

11. The employee should be in good physical condition; capable of lifting and carrying finished cases over short distances.

12. The employee should have some experience in or knowledge of folding carton manufacturing.

13. The employee should be ambitious, eager to learn and trainable; able to absorb and retain the “how to” principles of the job.

14. Perform any task as needed by Management.

Safety / Housekeeping

1. The employee must use appropriate PPE as required (i.e. Eye Protection, Protective Shoes, etc. as necessary).

2. The employee must be aware of all potential hazards associated with the equipment assigned.

3. The employee must know and be able to execute proper Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures for the equipment assigned.

4. The employee must know the location and function of all stop and e-stop buttons for the equipment assigned.

Safety / Housekeeping - Continued

5. The employee must know and understand the location and purpose of all machine guards for the equipment assigned.

6. The employee must keep the work area around the gluer, debris free, clean and neat at all times.

Quality

1. The employee must understand and follow established departmental quality procedures at all times.

2. The Operator must perform periodic quality checks as required: Check a finished carton at least each ½ hour for proper glue application, adhesion, folding alignment, cracking, marking, etc.

3. The Operator must retain at least one carton checked every ½ hour, with the time stamped on each carton.

4. Upon detection the Operator must take any necessary corrections, to nonconforming product, then tag and isolate any out of specification or suspect material discovered while performing periodic quality checks during the run.

5. Every finished case of material must be identified with a label that identifies the item to the Job Ticket Label Instructions.

6. The Operator must get the Job Bag from Die-Cutting; read the Job Ticket, verify he/she has all the necessary components, customer specifications, carton samples, corrugated cases, etc. to perform the job properly.

8. The Operator must perform complete line clearance at the end of every job or item before starting the M/R to the next job or changing over to the next item.

9. Upon the completion of a make ready the Operator must have a finished “glued” carton and a fully packed out “finished” case (If Applicable) ready and then get the designated approval to the run the job.

Required Technical Skills and Abilities

1. The employee must have experience with the gluing process.

2. The employee must understand the basics of folding carton structure.

3. The employee should understand unscheduled downtime vs. preventive maintenance, production standards, make ready efficiency and how they relate to department goals.

4. The employee should know the steps involved in setting up a job, i.e. the feed, pre-fold, gluing stations, folding stations, and the delivery station, etc.

5. The employee should be able to makeready and be ready to run the gluer in an acceptable amount of time.

6. The employee should be able to maintain proper gluing by making necessary adjustments to the gluer during the run.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
