What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clerk of works position at EDF?
Property Services delivers projects across our corporate estate which largely comprises of office buildings of varying size.
Most of these are in Southern England, with a few offices in the Northeast, Wales and Scotland. The current opportunity is for a South East based individual owing to the volume of pipeline work in this region.
Depending on your location you would have varying degrees of travel, with a mix of home, site and office working to ensure you remain connected and supported.
Projects will range from planned repair and maintenance works to larger office moves and refits. Our projects provide a real opportunity to make a difference in our ambition to help the UK achieve Net Zero.

As a Clerk of Works you will provide expert Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) knowledge across the EDF Property Services projects, enabling Managers and Project Managers to comply with all aspects of SHEQ primarily relating to design, construction, maintenance, operation, use and decommissioning.
This will involve working closely with internal colleagues, external consultants, and a wide variety of stakeholders through the various stages of the project and property lifecycle.

What you’ll be doing
As a Clerk of Works, you will be responsible for :
Ensuring that the required high standards of SHEQ management and practice are adopted and adhered to throughout the project.
Providing expert advice to all SHEQ management aspects throughout the project, being aware of current and future key SHEQ risks and ensuring these clearly documented and articulated in set-up.
- Providing expert advice at development of tender list and assessment of tenders. This is to include support to selection questionnaire, checking references and evaluation of contractor responses from a SHEQ perspective.
- Seeking opportunities for continuous improvement in all aspects of project delivery to ensure the highest possible standard of SHEQ management is achieved.
- Having a presence on site during the construction phase of the project to provide an SHEQ assurance function, ensuring that all statutory and EDF Energy SHEQ standards are adhered to.
The extent of this presence is generally a minimum of fortnightly, but requirements will be defined and agreed with the Works Delivery Manager / Project Manager at the outset of the project.
Discharging Client duties to monitor works under the Building Regulations
Who you are
You’ll have extensive experience of supporting multi-disciplinary construction projects, ideally within an Estates / Facilities team, and be able to demonstrate excellent Site Inspector skills.
You’ll be familiar with health, safety and environmental legislation and have an excellent understanding of construction design standards.
Additionally, you will have a good working knowledge of the Building Regulations and understand Client duties under the Building Regulations as amended by the Building Safety Act 2022.
You will ideally have a NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent), and be either a Graduate or Chartered Member of IOSH.
You’ll be required to promote a developed H&S culture. We’re looking for a team player with excellent communication skills who enjoys collaborating, influencing, and building long-term working relationships with stakeholders.
You’ll have a proactive can-do approach and will be committed to challenging the way things are done to provide continuous improvement and development of your own skills and knowledge.
