Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for a Startup Eng II-Technical Writer/Editor opportunity for our customer in Pueblo, CO for the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP).

Job Posting Title: Startup Eng II-Technical Writer/Editor

Project Overview:
The Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) will safely destroy 2,611 tons of mustard agent in mortar rounds and artillery projectiles stored at the U.S. Army Pueblo Chemical Depot (PCD) approximately 25 miles from Pueblo, Colorado. Neutralization followed by biotreatment is the technology selected by the Department of Defense to destroy the Pueblo chemical weapons stockpile. The PCAPP plant began the operations and munition destruction phase as of September 2016.

Candidates for unescorted access to the Chemical Limited Area must successfully clear National Agency Check with Local Check (NACLC). All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be physically fit and able to work safely at an operating plant. Eligible applicants must be a US Citizen and successfully go through a government screening process. Based on project goals and objectives, candidates established within our local community are desirable.

Position Summary:
The Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) is looking for a Technical Writer/Editor at the Pueblo, CO location. This position will report to the O&AS Manager at the PCAPP project. Among other duties, this position is responsible for writing, editing, proofreading, and coordinating the production of moderate to complex documents and presentations with accuracy, consistency, professional quality, and conformance to appropriate style guide. Collaborates with authors, subject matter experts, and professional staff while preparing a full range of technical documents. Handles multifaceted technical publication assignments independently. Coordinates production and monitors job progress.
This PCAPP position falls under the scope of the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act of 1965 (SCA). The SCA requires PCAPP to provide employees with benefits and wages no less than the amounts the Department of Labor has established for the location and classification in which the employee will be working.

Work Schedule:
This position is scheduled to work 4/10s from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday – Thursday or Tuesday – Friday (start and end times may vary). This position will require additional overtime hours as considered necessary.

Principle responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Plans, writes, edits, proofreads, and coordinates the production of moderate to complex technical documents, procedures, presentations, and other print and electronic media.
  • Plans format of documents, organizes content, writes/edits text, and provides instructions for final production.
  • Collaborates with authors, subject matter experts, and professional staff while preparing a full range of technical documents.
  • Applies appropriate level of edit based on considerations such as customer expectations, audience, visibility, and corporate standards.
  • Ensures that material is structured and formatted logically, and resolves inconsistencies.
  • Edits and/or rewrites documents to industry and government standards while conforming to appropriate style guide and other document-related procedures.
  • Reviews document requirements (including content and schedule) with customers and provides guidance for successful and timely product completion.
  • Works with authors to resolve editorial and/or content issues.
  • Monitors job progress and alerts responsible supervisor when schedules appear to be in jeopardy.
  • Maintains complex electronic file management and configuration control.
  • Assists other publications staff, as required. May review work of other publications staff members.
  • Works overtime as required.
  • Qualifications and Skills
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and one year of experience in technical writing and editing production.
  • In lieu of a degree, seven years of progressive, relevant experience in technical writing and editing production.
  • Must be US Citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to the Depot.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word. A skills assessment may be administered to test proficiency.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in clerical proofreading. A skills assessment may be administered to test proficiency.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills, including office grammar and spelling. A skills assessment may be administered to test proficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with standard document formatting/editing/production software, including electronic comment incorporation, importing graphic files, formatting tables, and developing and applying templates.
  • Online editing/proofreading skills, and knowledge of standard editing/proofreading marks.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current publication production methods and techniques, including graphics, document formatting, and reprographic processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of formatting, editing, grammatical, and writing styles (e.g., MLA, APA, Chicago).
  • Vocabulary of the relevant technical disciplines.
  • Ability to perform substantive edits, write original text, and work with technical authors to rewrite text.
  • Ability to review, format, and edit content to professional standards while conforming to appropriate style guide and other document-related guides and procedures.
  • Ability to identify and apply appropriate level of edit based on considerations such as customer expectations, audience, visibility, and project/corporate standards.
  • Ability to work with people of varied backgrounds and objectives.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Competence in handling complex publication assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to act as a lead writer/editor for large, multifunctional, and/or high-profile document assignments.
  • Experience interfacing with authors, subject matter experts, publications staff, and document control staff while preparing and coordinating a full range of technical documentation and other publication products.
  • Ability to coordinate the review and approval of project documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively within an electronic document management system.
  • Must be proactive, use individual initiative, follow assignments through to completion, and be attentive to detail, quality control and deadlines.
  • Possess a high degree of flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and proven record as a team player.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technical writing and editing experience in a technical publications production environment on a government project.
  • Knowledge of document development that may be specific to or across various administrative, engineering, procurement, construction, and/or operations disciplines.
  • Familiar with scientific/engineering principles and terminology related to engineering for facility components, systems, design, and operations.
  • Understands trademark, copyright, and corporate identity standards and guidelines.
  • Performs research to support document production.
  • Current/prior experience in editing and writing government proposals, technical reports, and white papers.
  • Ability to capture and report production metrics.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in general Microsoft Office Suite applications.

This project is subject to the Army Regulations (AR50-6 Chemical Surety) which governs persons performing work under the Unescorted Access Program (UAP). Depending on the work performed and the access granted a government security investigation and other physical requirements such as respirators may be mandated. Eligibility to be placed in a UAP position requires US citizenship.
