POSITION SUMMARY:
The Controller position is responsible for implementing best practice accounting processes, ensuring internal controls are in place and sufficient, leading the month and year end close process and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of internal company financial reporting. Reporting to the CFO, you will oversee general accounting, financial reporting operations, cash management and continue to monitor controls, processes, and systems to enable us to meet operational, reporting and audit requirements. The right candidate for this role is an experienced, highly motivated, strategic finance leader with a drive for operational excellence, great attention to detail and proven ability to work successfully with all levels of an organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise a team of experienced accounting staff to perform transactional accounting including intercompany accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, fixed assets, and general ledger account analysis.
- Lead the company’s month end close process, with a continued goal of reducing close timeline while maintaining accounting quality.
- Coordinate with tax preparers to assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns.
- Administration of the company’s property & casualty insurance policies
- Lead the annual financial audit process, partnering with auditors, and prepare annual financial statements.
- Continue to refine best practice financial accounting processes and internal controls in accordance with US GAAP. Continuously evaluate and improve the company’s internal controls.
- Work closely with the Director of SEC reporting to ensure quarterly and annual SEC reporting is filed accurately and timely.
- Provide leadership/mentorship to the accounting team. Lead by example, including a willingness to roll up your sleeves.
- Promote and develop a culture of growth, learning and collaboration.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Articulate and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to research and summarize complex accounting information when necessary.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with proven experience in mentoring and developing skills of direct reports.
- Familiarity with cash flow forecasting and cash management
- Commitment to excellence with a high sense of urgency
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA certification strongly preferred
- Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience at a major public accounting firm
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a management role
- Experience with an ERP system, preferred
- Advanced Excel skills required
