Purpose

The Payroll Technician serves as a member of a team that is responsible to all day-to-day administrative operations of the Payroll department. This position provides support and service to schools and department as well as current and prospective employees.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the timely and accurate production of monthly payrolls, including computations of salary adjustments, leave, overtime, and other miscellaneous deductions.
  • Work knowledgably with employees on all aspects of payroll
  • Coordinate, organize documentation and monitor Worker’s Compensation claims, PFML, and other leaves. Should have the ability to process from start to finish.
  • Enter and update information into the district Absence Management system while evaluating the program for efficiency
  • Participate in collective bargaining negotiations to include interpretation of employee agreements as to their effect of pay, leaves, deductions, taxation, retirement, and employee benefits.
  • Professionally interact with colleagues, members of the public, and students
  • Comply with and uphold all district policies and all applicable laws
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

Knowledge and Skills

  • Working knowledge of all phases of Payroll, procedures, and terminology.
  • Clear knowledge and understanding of Payroll laws, state and federal
  • Knowledge of accounting principles related to wages, benefits, and compensation
  • Knowledge of federal and state record keeping requirements
  • Proficiency in the preparation of state and federal tax returns and information statements
  • Attention to detail and excellent clerical skills
  • Ability to prioritize with a high degree of flexibility
  • Clear and effective communication skills
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with district office staff to enhance the completion of assigned tasks
  • Ability to handle confidential matters and information in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently within the parameters of the job to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines without constant supervision

Salary : $49,900 - $63,200
