POSITION OVERVIEW

About the Position

We are looking for individuals who are passionate and want to make a difference in students' lives at Sequoia Pathfinder Academy at Verrado Way and I-10. We are seeking a candidate with presentation skills, communication skills, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, positive attitude, and motivated individuals, who will collaborate effectively with school community stakeholders to create and maintain a positive culture that is conducive to learning.

The Campus Life Advisor will provide proactive Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance (CCBG) services to students in three major domains: academic advisement, career advisement, and personal/social development. These services will be available for all students, their parents, and school staff. The Campus Life Advisor will provide Academic Advisement Services including assistance with school registration, four-year planning (ECAP), and progress monitoring. College and Career Readiness (CCRI) focus will help students to identify their career interests and aptitudes, providing information on the entire spectrum of career options, and suggesting course selections that will prepare students for chosen career areas.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Master’s degree in counseling or a closely related field

 Experience  

  • Three years of classroom and/or school guidance counseling experience.

 Other Requirements

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid IVP fingerprint clearance card by the time of hire
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Drivers License by the time of hire
  • Must have completed or currently be enrolled is a counseling certificate program

OR

Combined education and experience qualifications

  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year for year basis.

 Preferred

  • Four or more years of classroom and/or school guidance counseling experience.

  • Counseling Certificate
  • Bi-lingual/Spanish skills

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS

  • Direct and indirect intervention development with school administration to provide equitable practices for all students.
  • Consults with administrators, teachers, parents, and other professionals about appropriate change strategies.
  • Networking with school programs and community agencies to provide essential services for families and children.
  • Understanding of educational laws, ethical issues, professional issues and standards.
  • Assist parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources, refer parents and students to agencies when appropriate to meet students’ needs.
  • Develop and implement professional development training for educational staff and parents as requested.
  • Participate in professional activities aimed at current trends and best educational practices.
  • Accurately and appropriately interpret student data.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Plan and implement a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students within the school curriculum.
  • Uses effective intervention techniques and materials to implement established goals and objectives.
  • Monitors and assesses student progress to provide feedback on a regular basis to students and their parents.
  • Diagnoses, instructs, and evaluates specific student needs and seeks assistance of administration as required.
  • Communicates aims and/or objectives to students and adults in a well-planned, organized manner using clear and precise language.
  • Creates a classroom environment during presentations that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • May provide presentations of social and emotional lessons in a classroom setting.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing the development of proper student behavior.
  • Creates educational experiences that provide each student the opportunity to develop his/her potential in the areas of personal social adjustment, decision-making, positive self-image and other life skills.
  • Promotes and follows the adopted school district philosophy, policies regulations and administrative procedures.
  • Communicates concerns and ideas with colleagues, students, parents and community in a positive, professional and ethical manner.
  • Assumes legal responsibility for the supervision of students on school property or in attendance at school-sponsored activities.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Assumes individual responsibilities which may be assigned by the principal/supervisor, and which may relate to committee work, student activities, student supervision or other planning and professional assignments. 
  • Maintains accurate, complete, legible, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Working Conditions

This position will work in a classroom/conference room setting. Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 25 pounds. May work on some evenings or weekends throughout the school year based on business needs.
