Work alongside EITs, Project Engineer and Project Managers, learning how to prepare construction plans and design communities and assist in the development of construction drawings, specifications and construction contract documents for single-family residential development projects that include paving, grading, drainage, water distribution lines, wastewater collection lines, and other related items. Typically demonstrates baseline working knowledge of routine work applications; follows standard principles and systems and uses appropriate terminology; participates as a team member in a collaborative environment within a diverse workforce; actively contributes to completion of team goals and assigned tasks; clearly communicates information, ideas, or instructions verbally and in writing; follows recommended approach to assigned work to facilitate achievement of desired results; ensures safe practices and environmental awareness are exhibited in decisions; typically works under direct and frequent supervision while performing routine duties using established procedures with detailed instructions. Work to accomplish all tasks in year one growth plan.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Apply standard practices and techniques in solving problems.
- Contribute to investigations and development of new concepts to solve unique problems in various facilities.
- Contribute data/findings for use in technical reports, designs, documents, or oral/written presentations.
- Provide assistance in assignments for drafting, design and plan production, water, wastewater, paving and drainage and Roadway projects.
- Start to learn agency rules, TCEQ, MUDs, design criteria and EHRA procedures.
- Team participation in a collaborative environment within a diverse workforce; actively contributes to completion of team goals and assigned tasks; clearly communicates information, ideas, or instructions, both verbally and in writing; exhibits decisions that are based on safe practices and environmental awareness.
- Contributes to the investigation and development of new concepts to solve unique challenges that come with each project.
- Interact and collaborate with other team members and clients to accomplish organizational goals; improve efficiency at the group level; and network with own technical peer group.
- Supports engineers to complete planning; research preliminary design; and may be required to perform detailed design
- Participates on a design team in the preparation of construction drawings and cost estimates in varying stages of the project.
- Ability to learn auto CAD and apply knowledge and skills to create construction drawings and exhibits.
- Develop knowledge of MUDs, communication skills and leadership skills.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Must be able to follow directives provided by the Project Manager, set priorities, assist in the preparation of project schedules and be willing to work on multiple projects in a team-based environment focused on the timely delivery of quality projects.
- Requires strong communication with team members, clients and governmental agencies.
- Develop knowledge of Agency criteria.
Work Environment:
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the construction areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection, etc.
Education, certification and experience:
- BS in Civil Engineering, with 0 – 2 years or more of experience in Land Development.
- Must be PC literate, preferably having experience in AutoCAD.
- Efficient in Word & Excel.
