Job Description

THE ROLE

EDC is seeking a forward-thinking and multi-talented creative to help craft, execute, and evolve our brand’s vision for the greatest impact. The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled senior visual designer who is strategic, able to conceptualize and carry out creative solutions, and passionate about powerful visual storytelling.

The successful candidate must have experience with a full range of collateral, from websites, apps, and reports to social media and outreach campaigns to brand design and development to data visualizations and multimedia presentations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The director will collaborate across teams to execute and guide our creative team in designing exceptional materials that support EDC’s long-term growth and impact. Reporting to the Director of the Digital Design Group and collaborating closely with the Director of the Office of Communications, this person will ensure fidelity to a coherent, compelling brand across all collateral that advances EDC’s mission and goals.

  • Oversee all corporate creative design projects from concept to completion
  • Propose and implement new ways of visually and dynamically communicating complex ideas in digital media, video, and print
  • Lead design at a systems level, building components to be reused, scaled, and optimized across different channels and platforms 
  • Strategically inform and lead the development of webpages and digital experiences that are highly engaging, prioritize reaching new audiences and underrepresented groups, and support EDC projects and centers
  • Mentor in-house design team to help create and maintain the quality of work and ensure all projects meet or exceed high brand standards and business objectives
  • Conceptualize, design, and produce a variety of deliverables, such as websites, reports, promotional materials, and data visualizations, with and for key project staff
  • Build creative vendor and consultant resources (both domestic and international) to execute and improve design processes, standards, and productivity
  • Contribute to, inform, and implement an EDC-wide brand refresh, including a website redesign
  • Collaborate in the conception and implementation of creative solutions for EDC-wide thought leadership and awareness campaigns

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • 7 years of experience in brand and digital focused design environments; U.S. and/or international nonprofit or social impact experience preferred
  • Superior design skills, with an ability to quickly conceptualize solutions and direction and produce compelling, visually sophisticated designs
  • An exceptional design portfolio across a range of mediums (e.g., print, Web, mobile, and social)
  •  Experience in UX/UI design best practices and usability testing
  • Extensive knowledge and experience applying human-centered design principles 
  • High level of initiative, self-motivation, resourcefulness, and patience—ability to execute a strategic agenda 
  • Experience leading the design of large-scale initiatives (e.g., digital curriculum, brand development, websites) from idea to final deliverable
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, set goals, and manage multiple projects simultaneously within a fast-moving environment 
  • Commitment to inclusive design and experience designing for ADA compliance
  • Experience managing processes, people, and teams
  • Expert fluency in Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
