Interface with all shops within Facilities Services and other ETS departments in order to meet maintenance, relocation and construction schedules.

Replace light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, ballast and reset circuit breakers. Assist electricians by performing limited maintenance and construction tasks as needed.

Assist the carpentry shop by performing limited carpentry and construction tasks such as construct, alter, repair and install masonry and sheetrock walls, partitions, doors, and ceilings, including movable walls and partition systems.

Assist the paint shop, as needed, with interior painting by properly preparing surfaces, spackling dry wall, caulking and applying undercoats and finish coats of paint.

Assist PHVAC operators/mechanics, as needed, by performing limited maintenance and construction tasks such as setting thermostats, starting and stopping related equipment, and doing minor plumbing repairing, checking sprinkler systems and alarms.

Assist in grounds maintenance by mowing grass, trimming edging and policing the grounds and parking areas.

Perform snow removal activities such as directed by grounds crew chief.

Move and arrange furniture and other office equipment during office relocations and reorganizations using floor plans and blueprints for correct placement. Set up conference rooms.

Install and remove blackboards, bulletin boards, name tags, room numbers, special decorations, art exhibits, pictures, blinds and drapes during decorating, exhibiting and relocations.

Construct, repair and install movable partitions, office furniture or work stations in order to create and maintain offices.

Drive ETS vans and/or trucks as needed for building maintenance, relocations, reorganizations and deliveries of furniture, equipment and supplies. Inspect automotive vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operating conditions.

Repair and adjust office furniture, lavatory dispensers and fixtures, furniture locks and file drawers for correct operation by using hand tools.

Repair and install carpeting, floor tile and baseboards.

Service washrooms in order to maintain correct levels or paper supplies, hand soap and sanitary napkins on a daily basis and as needed.

Operate a variety of hand tools and portable power tools. Assemble and dismantle scaffolding, ladders and other devices in a secure and safe manner.

Perform assigned projects or tasks that may require working in or under unpleasant or hazardous conditions.

Includes confined spaces, use of ladders, flooding, odors, heat, cold, mud, rain, snow and lifting up to 50 pounds.

May require overtime in order to meet maintenance schedules or emergency situations. All snow personnel are on “on-call” status during the snow season.

Respond to routine and emergency situations and communicate with ETS staff. Determine malfunction and formulate a course of action, which may include either adjust/repair or call for mechanical or operational assistance.

Make signs, room numbers and name plates by use of the engraving machine and other mechanical methods.

Adhere to ethical standards and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to your job function.
Experience and Skills:

A High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

A valid driver's license is required.

Three years in general maintenance and construction including commercial painting and basic electrical and carpentry experience is necessary.
