We are looking for a professional and motivated individual to join our team as a Broadband Technician. Broadband Technicians will work out of our Kalamazoo Regional Office to provide video and Internet service to our communities. One aspect of that service consists of maintaining the infrastructure for our Basic Cable TV, DISH Network and Internet services as well as implementing system upgrades. Another aspect is assisting community maintenance personnel with troubleshooting individual subscriber/resident service issues as well as training community maintenance personnel. This is an entry level position.
What are the responsibilities of a Broadband Technician?
- Installs, monitors, and maintains existing or proposed broadband systems.
- Monitors accessibility and performance of the broadband system.
- Troubleshoots and resolves problems with the broadband system.
- Performs new installations or replaces outdated or malfunctioning equipment.
- Reads and interprets design drawings, blueprints and installation guides to determine layout or placement of cable, fiber and switches.
- Ensures installations comply with applicable building codes for quality and safety.
- Properly operates and maintains tools and equipment.
- Maintains accurate records including time worked, daily logs, mileage logs, work orders, etc.
What are the Role Requirements?
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a technical school is required.
- Broadband experience (video and data) with some combination of: SCTE certification, NCTI course accreditation, Cisco certification with CMTS familiarity is required.
- DOCSIS knowledge and ability to perform DOCSIS testing on completed installations.
- Strong knowledge of balancing systems with forward and reverse path frequencies.
- Fiber knowledge and experience with installation, fusion splicing, mechanical connectors, OTDR’s, etc. is preferred.
- Experience with spectrum analyzer, FSM, TDR’s, Cable, and fault locators.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge and experience of customer service practices.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- The ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Must be willing to work overtime when necessary and occasional extended support coverage – which may include on-call, evening and/or weekend hours.
- Attendance, work ethic and strong interpersonal skills are required for success in this position.
- Effective planner and ability to organize tasks in order of priority.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills along with close attention to detail are required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and be willing to travel to various locations via private or public air transportation as needed.
