What are the responsibilities and job description for the DFX Leader position at Edwards Vacuum LLC?
This person will initiate and lead a DfX (Design for Excellence) program integrating Design for Reliability (DfR), Design for Supply Chain (DfSC), Design for Manufacturability (DfM), Design for Test (DfT), Design for Assembly (DfA) and Design for Serviceability (DfS). They will ensure transfer, coaching, and archiving of the DfX convention deliverables with all other functional disciplines. The role will evolve into instilling a broad DfX mentality across the product company, supporting us in driving ideation, and leading a cultural transformation as it relates to product ideation, development, and design.
Responsibilities:
- Initiate and lead a DfX program on new product development of Cryogenic solutions which integrates Design for Reliability (DfR), Design for Supply Chain (DfSC), Design for Manufacturability (DfM), Design for Test (DfT), Design for Assembly (DfA) and Design for Servicability (DfS)
- Ensure that input is captured from stakeholders including Customers , Quality, Procurement, Marketing,, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, and Service Technology Centers to understand and establish DfX practices.
- Be an active member of product development teams leading the team to apply DfX during product ideation, development, transfer to manufacturing, and to Service Technology Centres.
- Apply DfX to increase value and reduce as-manufactured cost of new products
- Ensure that DfX thinking is integrated into 3-year product roadmaps
- Continuously coach & lead DfX discipline, interfacing with other functions of the Product Company and beyond.
- Ensure that the DfX convention deliverables are well documented.
- Represent the DfX organization in the business and provide Product Company and Divisional leadership with regular project performance status updates, variances to plan and identification of corrective actions.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
- BS/MS degree in ME, EE or equivalent technical domain; an MBA with engineering background is desirable
- 5 years' experience executing new product designs targeted to end customer use cases and patterns
- Track record of designing products for low cost of ownership, leveraging competitor product teardowns, should-cost analysis, supplier collaborations, Munro analysis, or equivalent
- Strong project management skills (PMP desirable but not required)
- Continuous improvement and change management experience, including managing stakeholders at executive level
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Possess a proactive, self-motivated approach to solving problems
