JOB TITLE:   

Associate Professor/Director Native American & Indigenous Studies Program

 

JOB PURPOSE:   

To Direct the Native American and Indigenous Studies Program at the University of Wyoming. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Serve as director of the Native American & Indigenous Studies program within the School of Culture, Gender, Social Justice
    • Schedule and staff NAIS Courses
    • Develop and support NAIS initiatives and events
    • Develop and maintain relationships with UW, Wyoming, and Regional Native Communities
    • Help support Native students
    • Work and collaborate with other program directors and the SCGSJ director to develop and administer the SCGSJ
    • Help build, maintain, and administer pipeline and scholarship programs
  • Teach courses for NAIS and the SCGSJ
  • Maintain an active research/scholarly/creative agenda 
  • Head the High Plains American Indian Research Institute

  • Ability to Teach Native American Courses and Related
  • Manage the program
  • Community outreach

 

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
  • Terminal degree in one’s field (e.g. Ph.D., J. D., or MFA)
  • The ability to teach core courses within Native American and Indigenous Studies and experience teaching the same
  • At least one of the following:
    • Research and/or creative activity related to Native American and Indigenous Studies
    • Experience working in collaboration with Native American and Indigenous communities
    • Experience administering an academic program

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

Candidates with an ability to teach courses that may be offered beyond NAIS and across the SCGSJ disciplines (Ethnic Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, Cultural Studies, American Studies, African American and Diaspora Studies, Latino/a Studies, or related fields) are preferred.

 

REQUIRED MATERIALS:  

Candidates should submit: a.) a letter of application—including sections on administrative approach, teaching philosophy, and how the candidate would build relationships with constituent and stakeholder communities b.) a complete CV, c.) evidence of teaching effectiveness such as peer and/or student teaching evaluations, d.) a writing sample of no more than 30 pages--a link to an existing publication is acceptable and encouraged; and e.) three letters of reference. All of the above should be submitted through the online application system.
