JOB TITLE:
Assistant Professor in Ornithology
JOB PURPOSE:
The Department of Zoology and Physiology at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a tenure-track position in Ornithology at the rank of Assistant Professor. We invite applications from candidates using diverse systems and approaches to study the physiological or evolutionary ecology of birds. We envision an independent researcher who will develop a strong, extramurally-funded research program, and who will excel in a highly collaborative university setting through contributions to research, teaching, and outreach.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The candidate will be expected to develop a strong, extramurally funded research program focused on the physiological or evolutionary ecology of birds. We seek a colleague who is committed to participating in the community through teaching, research, service, and undergraduate and graduate student mentoring. The individual will be expected to contribute to the academic missions of the Department and the interdepartmental Ph.D. program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. The individual will also be expected to be an integral member of WYOBIRD (Wyoming Bird Initiative for Resilience and Diversity). WYOBIRD is a new initiative whose mission is to advance knowledge, appreciation, and conservation of birds locally and globally by conducting novel research, training a new generation of scientists, and sharing science through public outreach. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in undergraduate and graduate programs, and should be committed to mentoring and fostering diversity.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
The candidate will be expected to participate in appropriate service activities including, but not limited to, serving on departmental, college and university committees, and graduate committees. These service functions are in addition to discipline-related service activities at the national and international levels.
