Position Overview:
The purpose of this classification is to assess inmates and family spiritual needs and assists families in using their faith in dealing with illness, trauma, and stress; visits new inmates and inmates with special requests in assigned area; follows up with inmates from previous visits when appropriate.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Provides crisis intervention as necessary; assists in helping families remain informed of inmates’ condition. Documents inmate and family service provided.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a safe environment and communicate effectively with all age groups of inmates.
Provides pastoral services in such a way as to accomplish the institutional, as well as the departmental objectives. Functions in such a manner that reflects the mission and vision of the institution.
Adheres to all Prison standards, policies, and procedures; Adheres to the code of ethics of the Association of Professional Chaplains
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by a minimum of two years as a lay chaplain.
