Required: Master’s degree in Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Studies or related field

Licensure/Certification

Required: Board Certified Chaplain through Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC)

Preferred: Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Certified

Experience
-
Required: Three (3) years of theology, religion or related experience and a background in professional chaplaincy and spiritual care in a hospital or direct patient care setting; Three (3) years in a leadership position managing staff, department budgets and strategic department planning

Preferred: Experience with building diverse and inclusive faith-based programs

Essential Job Specific Responsibilities
-
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.

Ensures the delivery of a complete program of spiritual care to patients, their loved ones, and healthcare staff of all faith traditions.
-
Actively participates in the delivery of spiritual care.
-
Ensures that all requests for spiritual care are responded to in a timely manner.
-
Ensures that appropriate worship opportunities are provided.
-
Ensures that ritual and sacramental needs are met.
-
Supervises and facilitates the work of those delivering spiritual care, including staff and Chaplains appointed to the Spiritual Care Department.
-
Provides orientation and training according to institutional standards and conducts yearly performance reviews, as appropriate.
-
Monitors days away and ensures adequate staffing.
-
Participates, as appropriate, in hiring, performance evaluations and disciplinary processes.
-
Coordinates clergy and volunteers from the religious community.
-
Provides orientation of policies and procedures that affect their visiting.
-
Provides resources, including patient lists, according to institutional policy.

Provides liaison with institutional personnel.
-
Supports an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care for the organization and among all Chaplains.
-
Provides liaison to other departments, such as social work, volunteers, etc.

Provides orientation to spiritual care to other departments as invited.

Serves on institutional committees, such as Bioethics and Institutional Review Board, as appointed.

Oversees the use and maintenance of the spiritual care offices and chapel.

Develops and maintains proper administration procedures for the department in accordance with institutional policy.

Develops and maintains procedures to keep records of spiritual activity to communicate with other members of the department and report to administration.

Develops and administers the department’s plan for continuous quality improvement.
-
Contributes to the wider community through publication, teaching and research.

Authors and co-authors material relevant to spiritual care and pastoral education as needed.

Participates in teaching on a regular or periodic basis as invited.
-
Participates in research relevant to the field of spiritual care.

Participates in programs and administrative activities of the institution.
-
Plans and participates in regular professional development activities, supervision, and staff meetings.
-
Creates metric-based tools to show and track progress of spiritual development initiatives.
