TITLE: Bilingual Paraprofessional
REPORTS TO: ESL Coordinator, Principal
JOB GOAL: Assist in conducting learning experiences for students in ESL; perform a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and to perform related work as required.
Performance Responsibilities
Tutor or assist a group of children in English practices designed by an ESL teacher.
Review and summarize learning of specific skills.
Assist in monitoring student’s academic progress.
Oversees and supervises students during classroom activities.
Maintains discipline in the absence of the teacher.
Assist in communicating with Limited English Proficient students and families.
Qualification Guide
Knowledge of:
General Concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics.
General Purposes and goals of public education.
Second Language (Spanish, preferred) and educational vocabulary in both languages.
Ability To
Assume responsibility for supervising students.
Learn and utilize basic methods and procedures to be followed in instructional settings.
Perform routine clerical work and basic arithmetical calculation.
Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children.
Understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
Communicate and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents and the general public.
Training And Experience
An Associate of Arts Degree or 60 College hours or High School Diploma/GED and Successful Completion of the ParaPro Praxis Assessment with qualifying score.(Documentation must be provided.)
