Job Summary:
The Community Kitchen Service Associate reports to the Community Cook and to the Community Chef and performs a variety of food service functions in maintaining clean and sanitary conditions of Community food services, facilities, and equipment. He/she is responsible for the removal of all garbage; leaving machinery empty, clean, and dry; and keeping floors clean after each meal.
Kitchen Service Associate Procedure:
Essential Functions:
- Follows the posted work schedule and arrives on time and in appropriate work attire.
- Is responsible for the proper washing of china, flatware, glassware, and other kitchen equipment including machine rinse pressure and water temperature.
- Is responsible for maintaining the kitchen and other assigned area in a sanitary condition.
- Establishes and maintains constructive working relationships with other kitchen personnel and Residents.
- Must be familiar with food-handling procedures and regulations.
- Must know how to operate kitchen appliances such as the garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, and ice machine.
- May be required to help with food preparation, inventory, and maintenance as well as food deliveries and stocking shelves.
Compliance and Safety:
- Follows all emergency procedures.
- Understands all safety practices and procedures.
- Reports on-the-job injuries to the Community Cook and/or Community Chef before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs.
Communication
- Communicates effectively with Community Chef and other staff.
- Advises Community Chef of any changes in physical or mental health of a Resident immediately.
- Maintains an acceptable attendance record, notifies Community Chef if he/she expects to be late or unable to work in accordance with personnel policies, and follows work schedule.
Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification
- Some kitchen experience is desirable.
- Basic knife skills required.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
Physical Requirements
- Physically able to bend and reach.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Able to stand and walk short distances most of the day.
- Able to work in a hot/humid environment for extended periods of time.
- May be exposed to sudden temperature changes when entering freezer and/orrefrigerator.
- May be subject to burns from hot foods or falls on slippery floors if caution is not usedwhen working.
Miscellaneous
- May be required to work weekends and holidays as assigned.
- May be required to work on shifts other than the one for which hired.
- May be required to work extended hours (up to 16 hours per day).
- May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., includingHIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis B and C viruses.
- Could be subject to hostile and emotionally upset Residents due to mental status.
- Must be in good physical and emotional health and free of communicable diseases.
- Background, criminal, and drug tests may be required.
- May be asked to submit to random drug test during employment.
- May have their picture taken and image used in social media or community advertising.
- May be video recorded from devices installed by families in residents’ apartments.
