The ELANTAS division manufactures innovative insulating materials for the electrical and electronics industry and ensures that electricity flows safely. They are found in electric motors, household appliances, cars, generators, transformers, capacitors, digital cameras, wind mills, computers, lamps, circuit boards, and sensors, and help to ensure that product design engineers can construct ever smaller and more powerful electronic devices, thus saving materials and energy.

Analytical Chemist

Your task structure

The position is responsible for complex problem solving utilizing a variety of analytical instruments.  The successful candidate must be able to work directly with customer service, sales and research & development.  Chemist will be responsible for production assistance, the identification of unknowns, analytical testing of samples from research and development, and the development of analytical methods to support all business units.  The chemist will also be responsible for maintaining analytical instrumentation.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform complex chemical analyses and use the quality assurance techniques associated with these methods
  • Learn and perform the operation, application, and basic maintenance of instruments and/or sampling equipment
  • Conduct research into chemical methods and techniques, and develop new methodologies/capabilities for the analysis of samples
  • Interpret the results of analytical tests to propose possible solutions
  • Prepare technical forms, reports, and other correspondence
  • Express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, consultants, regulatory agencies, and general public
  • Assist the organization to create a safe and healthy working environment by working safely, using equipment provided and following instructions given for health and safety purposes and immediately reporting any unsafe working practices or hazardous working conditions.

Qualification, knowledge and experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry is required

Skills and attitude:

  • Material identification and characterization skills, and willingness to learn/perform instrument maintenance are essential
  • Excellent computer and teamwork skills are required
  • A strong background in the use of analytical techniques including FT-IR, Near-IR, GPC, HPLC, GC, DSC, TGA, and TMA is preferred
  • Experience in polymer chemistry and materials is preferred
  • Must have a knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of analytical chemistry, mathematics and statistics as they relate to analytical chemistry, laboratory safety practices and procedures as they apply to analyses, and research methods, techniques, and current literature in the field of analytical chemistry
  • Must possess good communication skills, both written and oral, sound business judgment, strong interpersonal and technical skills, and a professional demeanor.
  • Must be able to effectively deal with customers, distributors and to work well with people at all levels of the company.
