Job Description - Substation Technician

Our Substation Technician would be responsible to complete a variety of tasks within an electric utility substation. Under the direction of the Substation Foreman, technicians will replace equipment in the substation, perform maintenance on existing equipment, and install concrete bases or new equipment. They may also operate construction equipment such as a skid steer, mini-x, or manlift. The substation technician works at his acquired skill level to help the crew complete their assigned tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Install concrete foundations and bases for transformers, steel structures, and control houses.
  • Construct ground grids for electrical systems in the substation.
  • Technicians will be trained in rebar construction, digging trenches, and installing conduit.
  • Pull cables for wiring and terminate wires as directed.
  • Erect steel structures for equipment and other apparatus.
  • If qualified, weld various materials using appropriate welding techniques and applications.
  • Adhere to established company and industry safety protocols.
  • Experience technicians may plan and layout work from blueprints, diagrams, or another specification.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Experience working inside an electric utility substation or a general construction environment. Initial crew assignment is based on previous knowledge of general or substation construction.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of hand tools.
  • Able to work effectively within a construction crew setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other crew members.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate various types of equipment such as skid steer, mini-X, and man lifts is desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints is desirable, but not required.
  • Valid driver's license and CDL preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00 - $33.00 per hour

Pay: $26.22 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 55 per week
