The Opportunity

The Operations Manager for Schenectady, NY oversees production, engineering, and logistics activities ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality material production while minimizing cost.

This is a key role in delivering our strategic ambition and growth plans, the Operations Manager will have responsibility to lead our teams and deliver on our ambition. They will be innovative in the manufacturing arena, applying best in class lean methodology. With their team they will drive the manufacturing, logistics & engineering strategy, developing plans and to deliver safety & quality improvements, manufacturing cost reduction and increased profit contribution for long-term sustainable growth.

The Operations Manager will evaluate past performance data to forecast needs and production scheduling. Develop strategic plans to improve productivity, quality and efficiency of production, engineering, and logistics.

You will be responsible for:

Leadership

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and coach direct reports to ensure the team are engaged, production targets are met, and goods are produced to the required quality standards to meet customer needs.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, trade compliance, quality, cleanliness, and company values standards across team.
  • Lead, coach, and support team members to maximize performance and drive the right culture through the organization
  • Lead, motivate, communicate with, develop, appraise and performance manage staff to ensure they are fully motivated to achieve best performance to meet the company’s needs

Production, Logistics, and Engineering oversight

  • Ensure adequate inventory of raw materials and consumables (e.g. chemicals, filters, cores, etc.) to support production needs.
  • Review documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness (labelling, line record book, packing lists, box labels, etc.).
  • Evaluate and document quality of in-process goods.
  • Communicate and coordinate timing of repairs and maintenance to fit with production schedule. Assist with repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Packaging of finished goods. Production documentation for finished goods (spool labels, packing lists, and box labels).
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation of production.engineeting, and logistics processes within Q-Pulse.

Optimize production processes

  • Optimize existing processes and procedures with support from the Safety, Quality, Logistics, Engineering and Technology Organizations
  • Develop and support scale up and technology transfer. Work with technology and engineering teams to transition and scale research and development activities to production.
  • Develop and support quality, safety, and efficiency improvements as well as cost reduction activities for existing production processes. (TPM, LEAN, 6σ, etc).
  • Develop and continuously evaluate all departmental budgets to support business objectives and ensure financial commitments are met.
  • Leading, coaching and supporting team members to maximize performance and drive the right culture through the organization
  • Lead, motivate, communicate with, develop, appraise and performance manage staff to ensure they are fully motivated to achieve best performance to meet the company’s needs

This position requires working with hazardous chemicals with appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, protective gloves, and, at times, a respirator. This position requires passing and maintaining medical clearance for respirator use and ensuring there are no conditions that may interfere with the face-to-facepiece respirator seal or respirator valve function.

The position requires routine lifting (up to 50 lbs unassisted several times per day), regular physical exertion including significant time standing and walking in a manufacturing environment.

What will make you successful?

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA process safety management standards including safety legislation, rules, regulations and best practice including the ISO Standards, their clauses and application.
  • Working knowledge of DoD and DoC trade compliance regulations.
  • Demonstrated inorganic plating and coating experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and inspiring a diverse operations team. This involves setting clear goals, providing guidance, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Ability to adjust approach situationally to influence other
  • Strong communication and collaboration: Ability to work with others, comfortable in taking and giving direction to achieve operational goals.
  • Ability to think strategically and develop long-term plans and goals for the manufacturing functions. This involves analyzing market trends, identifying opportunities for improvement, and aligning manufacturing with the overall business strategy.
  • Effective team leadership helping to motivate employees, improve productivity, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Extensive relevant experience of managing production, engineering, and logistics at senior level in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent computer skills which include knowledge of Microsoft packages, financial systems Knowledge of Lean Value Stream Mapping.

Work Schedule, Conditions, and Other Requirements:

This is a both a hands-on and supervisory position, working Monday through Friday, typically from 7:00 to 15:30, primarily in a production environment. There is some opportunity for flexibility within this work schedule to meet individual needs. .

You must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.
