Overview
Warringtonfire, part of the Element Group has an exciting opportunity for a Engineering Manager to join our growing team across multiple Fire Laboratory sites in Warrington. This is a great opportunity to help formulate the Maintenance Strategy for an established testing, inspection and certification business, which is undergoing a significant expansion project.
Responsibilities
- Manage the maintenance departmental resources, services, and facilities, overseeing a multimillion pound state-of-the-art facility at one location and another facility undergoing redevelopment in line with the new facility 4 miles across town
- Maximize the uptime and availability of all plant and testing equipment across both facilities, ensuring the most cost-effective use of all resources
- Develop a Maintenance Strategy utilizing a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) ethos, tailored to the specific complexities of the MEP infrastructure in both locations
- Implement a visual management Performance Centre (SQDCP/TPM) for the maintenance team, overseeing performance against deliverables
- Review, audit, and enhance Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities, driving continuous improvement throughout the department
- Provide coaching, leadership, and technical guidance on Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and the implementation of preventive measures
- Produce ad hoc and regular reports and analysis for operational testing businesses, reflecting the performance and efficiency of the maintenance department
- Track and validate training and competence against activities performed, fostering a culture of skill development and proficiency
- Identify and develop team members for succession planning and the evolving needs of the business
- Effectively schedule, assign, and track all planned maintenance activities, balancing them with emergent/reactive tasks
- Contribute to Capital Expenditure (CapEx) decisions, supporting the identification, construction, delivery, and handover of new assets
- Identify Business & Safety Critical assets, implementing an asset care regime to optimize reliability and uptime
- Organize and facilitate prompt emergency repairs of equipment and infrastructure to support laboratory testing schedules
- To work in accordance with all Element’s policies procedures and standards as all times
- Enhance productivity and capacity through modifications, extensions, or new low-cost items for existing equipment
- Prepare, execute, and follow up on business improvement events, communicating progress to wider teams
- Foster a positive health and safety culture within the Warrington Site Maintenance team, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, specifically adhering to 5S principles, and conducting regular audits of designated areas
- Take responsibility for HR within the area of responsibility, overseeing recruitment, training, and performance management
- Ensure adherence to all procedures and support the maintenance of ISO 17025 accreditation
- Support new or existing laboratory setups and the installation of replacement or new test equipment as needed
- Operate in accordance with Element’s Purpose, Mission, Vision, and Values, embodying the company's ethos in all activities
- Develop Standard Engineering Practice (SEP) processes and procedures, training all maintenance personnel to ensure compliance and proficiency
- Adapt to additional duties in line with the incumbent’s skills, knowledge, and aptitude as required by the business
Skills / Qualifications
- Degree Qualified (and/or) in Mechanical, Electrical, Design Engineering
- Recognised technical background with preferential experience in Fire Related testing equipment
- Previous experience of effectively leading and managing a multiskilled site team is essential
- Knowledge of Lean / Continuous Improvement (CI) tools (5S, TPM, RCA, PDCA)
- Experience working in a highly regulated environment
- Experience of working within an Integrated Management System and utilisation of a CMMS
- Ability to plan, organize and manage work within the defined areas of responsibility
- Good working knowledge of associated disciplines including Project Management, Health and Safety Quality
- A working understanding of service and repair requirements for a wide range of electrical and mechanical equipment
- Ability to apply logical reasoning and analytical thinking
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and a strong influencer
- Ability to build and sustain an environment that delivers high performance through empowering its employees
- Flexibility to travel between sites (within 4-miles of each other)
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Executive maturity and strategic thinking with Entrepreneurial drive
- Demonstrable gravitas and visible leadership
- Strong Financial and commercial acumen
- Ability to review performance, identify problems and implement their solution
- Ability to understand and respond with emotional intelligence to resolve conflict, working with colleagues to deliver a service that exceeds expectations and explores opportunities
- Chartered status (or working towards) is desirable, but not essential
- An understanding of ISO 17025 is desirable but not essential
