As a Surface Grinder Operator, you will be responsible for operating precision grinding machines to produce flat, smooth, and accurately sized surfaces on metal workpieces. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of machining processes, and the ability to work with tight tolerances.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate surface grinding machines to grind flat surfaces of metal workpieces to specified dimensions and surface finish
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job orders to determine grinding requirements
- Select appropriate grinding wheels, dressing tools, and coolant systems for each job
- Mount workpieces securely on the grinding machine table using clamps, magnetic chucks, or other fixtures
- Adjust machine controls to set grinding speeds, feeds, and depths of cut
- Monitor grinding operations to ensure workpieces meet dimensional and surface finish specifications
- Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to inspect workpieces for accuracy and quality
- Make necessary adjustments to machine settings and tooling to maintain part conformity and optimize production efficiency
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on grinding machines, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn or damaged components
- Adhere to safety procedures and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and deadlines
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship in machining preferred
- Proven experience as a Surface Grinder Operator or similar role in a manufacturing environment
