This role is essential in ensuring the safe and comfortable transport of residents to appointments, activities, and other necessary locations within and outside of the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Resident Transportation: Safely transport residents to medical appointments, therapy sessions, social activities, and other necessary destinations. Ensure the use of proper safety equipment and protocols.
- Assistance and Support: Provide support to residents during transport, including assistance with mobility, securing seat belts, and ensuring comfort.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety and regulatory guidelines related to the transportation of residents. Follow infection control procedures and ensure the vehicle meets all health and safety standards.
- Coordination: Work closely with nursing staff and other team members to coordinate transportation schedules and respond to any changes or emergencies effectively.
- Resident Interaction: Engage with residents in a respectful and friendly manner. Provide emotional support and reassurance during transport, addressing any concerns or discomfort.
- Certification: A valid Illinois CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) license is required.
- Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare or nursing home setting is preferred, particularly in roles involving transportation or direct resident care.
- Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to assist with resident mobility, lift and transfer individuals as needed, and perform other physical tasks related to transportation.
- Work primarily involves driving and assisting residents in and out of vehicles.
- May require occasional lifting and physical support of residents.
- Possible exposure to various weather conditions while transporting residents.
