Job Description:

As an Underground Fiber Technician, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for the installation and maintenance of underground fiber optic cables. Your primary role will be to provide support to the crew in various tasks, ensuring the efficient and timely completion of projects. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work in diverse environmental conditions.

Responsibilities:

1. Cable Preparation and Handling:

- Assist in the preparation of fiber optic cables, including measuring, cutting, and stripping cables as per specifications.

- Handle cables carefully to prevent damage and ensure proper organization and storage.

- Assist in the identification and labeling of cables for easy tracking and troubleshooting.

2. Excavation and Trenching:

- Aid in the excavation and trenching process to create pathways for underground fiber optic cables.

- Utilize hand tools and equipment to dig trenches, remove debris, and clear obstructions.

- Follow safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents and maintain a safe working environment.

3. Cable Installation and Placement:

- Assist in the placement and routing of fiber optic cables along designated pathways.

- Secure cables using appropriate fastening techniques, such as clips, staples, or straps.

- Collaborate with crew members to ensure cables are correctly positioned and adequately protected.

4. Equipment and Material Support:

- Assist in the setup and breakdown of equipment, including reels, splicers, and testing devices.

- Carry and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from the work site as needed.

- Maintain equipment cleanliness and report any malfunctions or damage to the crew leader.

5. Safety and Quality Assurance:

- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.

- Participate in safety briefings and follow proper procedures for personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.

- Assist in quality control measures, performing visual inspections and reporting any concerns or defects.

6. Documentation and Reporting:

- Maintain accurate records of work activities, including materials used, equipment utilized, and hours worked.

- Report any issues or challenges encountered during the installation process to the crew leader.

- Collaborate with team members to complete necessary paperwork and documentation accurately.

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Previous experience in general labor or construction-related work is preferred.

- Basic knowledge of fiber optic cables and telecommunications infrastructure is a plus.

- Physical fitness and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working in confined spaces.

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.

- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with crew members.

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to take direction from the crew leader.

- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and adapt to different work environments.

- Knowledge of safety protocols and the ability to prioritize personal and team safety.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
