Overview & Responsibilities The principal reason for this job is to support and assist external customers and Elliott business unit operational personnel in analysis of technical inquiries regarding installation, operation, maintenance, product improvement and/or failure analysis related to assigned areas of responsibility. The technical service engineer will compile facts and technical information required into coherent, logically prepared reports, to be communicated as required. The technical service engineer is to be a single point contact on assigned product lines, to accomplish the following tasks: Develop solutions to field technical problems. Provide direct technical support to internal and external customers on new apparatus and global service projects. Participate in root cause failure analysis. Conduct engineering studies. Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, process, or similar discipline). 5-10 years of work experience as an Engineer, plus: Customer services skills. Demonstrated capabilities of developing sound technical solutions to complex problems and being able to communicate & present the solution in a manner that gains buy in from internal and external customers. Individual should have a mechanical aptitude for rotating machinery and the associated processes, as well as the ability to read and understand drawings, product transmittals, technical documentation, operational manuals, and other technically related reports or memos. Individual should also possess a basic understanding of control theory and electrical components. Experience in Field Service, compressors, turbines & pumps will be considered in lieu of degree. Specific job responsibilities Acts as a Global Services technical focal point servicing both internal and external customers. Performs and directs key investigations, projects and related activities which require independent action and decision. Participates in and/or leads root cause failure analysis projects as directed. Provides field service and service centers support for major projects and overhauls. Execute product and service warranty, including investigations, analysis, and corrections (including budgeting), with the purpose of maintaining a satisfied customer base while managing internal financial constraints and objectives. Visit customers and equipment installation sites to obtain information to troubleshoot problems. Responsible for investigating, developing, presenting, and implementing corrective action. Collaborates with other departments to insure timely and effective problem solving of field problems for the assigned area of responsibility. Performs liaison function with other engineering departments on the specification, manufacturing, assembly, material quality, testing, repair, performance and operation for assigned products. Includes consulting with service groups on re-rates, defective parts, new part orders, engineering studies and design changes. Collaborates with other engineering groups in development of new products (design reviews) and improvement of existing products (Product Action Teams) from a service standpoint. Assists with technical aspects of sales/project execution activities when necessary. Generates Service Engineering Bulletins and Elliott Technical Service Letters as assigned. Assists and participates in the development of the overall technical service team capabilities and performance. Develops and presents technical training as directed.
