BASIC FUNCTION:

The Director of Radiology directs, coordinates, and oversees the radiology services across the continuum of care. Demonstrates new techniques to staff. Implements and monitors safety measures to ensure safety of patient/ staff and compliance with regulatory requirements. Develops and implements plan, policies and procedures regarding operations and staffing plans. Provides strategic decisions that affect the functional areas of responsibilities. Plans, organizes, and directs the clinical and administrative activities of the Department of Radiology in collaboration with the physicians and Chairman of the Department to assure appropriate high-quality services are provided on a 24/7. Primary responsibility is directed to inter-departmental relationships between staff, radiologists, and customers assuring excellence. To be well versed and knowledgeable about the latest technological advances in radiology.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Graduate from an approved Radiologic Technology education program
  • ARRT Required
  • New York State license of Radiologic Technology required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health or business field, Master’s degree preferred
  • A multi-registered candidate is also preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the Radiology field and at least five (5) years of managerial experience.
  • Candidate will be encouraged to pursue continuing educational opportunities to further advance and enhance work related skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 Should be able to push/pull, lift/move 15 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers.  Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance.  Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

  • Facilitates cohesive relations between staff and radiologists to better the department.
  • Act as liaison with IT for all computerized functions and processes. Oversee integration of new equipment into department
  • Evaluate accuracy and quality of images and provides technical assistance when required.
  • Keeps staff and Radiologists informed on hospital/departmental matters and appropriately communicates staff concerns to Radiologists// and Administration
  • Provides guidance and decision support to Sr. Technologists and staff.
  • Demonstrate adaptability, initiates, and displays willingness to embrace changes and innovation in order to obtain and sustain quality and cost-effective customer service.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
  • Develops and monitors quality indicators.
  • Assures radiation safety guidelines are followed according to State/Federal Rules and Regulations
  • Communicate with Administration to accomplish department and organizational goals.
  • Participates in professional development activities and ensures professional development of staff.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures outlined in the Exposure Control regarding, universal precautions, bloodborne pathogen exposure, disposal of needles, syringes and sharps, clean-up procedures for blood and body fluid spills, storage, handling and disposal of medical waste.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures related to mandatory education, annual health assessment and licensure verification.
  • Financial Operations of Department
  • Identifies and develops opportunities for revenue enhancement.
  • Allocates financial and human resources to achieve goals in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Works closely with vendors to ensure best pricing for supplies, capital purchases and service contracts. Research pricing and terms of contracts and decides prime vendor
  • Maintains team-working environment.  Manages time, sets priorities, delegates effectively and assists other staff as needed.
  • Ensure the department is operating within the standards set upon it by governing bodies such as the Joint Commission, NYS DOH, and ACR.
  • Oversight of Billing and Charge Reconciliation processes.
  • Oversight of day-to-day operations of all radiology departments at all locations.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and educating staff on all department policies.
  • Oversight of image quality, patient safety, and exam protocols as it relates to all modalities of Diagnostic Imaging.

Salary Range:   $54.01-$86.42/hour                  Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
