SUMMARY: The Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector is responsible for supporting the manufacturing process in the plant and responds to manufacturing and vendor issues and concerns to ensure products and materials are received and produced to specifications and according to manufacturing schedules, while promoting efficient use of resources. He/She should possess strong precision measurement, communication and problem-solving skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The QA Inspector must demonstrate competence in the following areas.
- Helps to develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods based on inspection results. Contributes to solution of problems, escalating where appropriate.
- Establishes the processes and routings to handle discrepant material, returned products (RMAs) and internal jobs to be reworked.
- Completes inspection of parts using coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and other measuring tools.
- Serves as a Lean champion, participating in Lean projects according to a schedule agreed to by the QA Inspector and Quality Manager.
- Inspects parts accurately and in a timely manner using blueprints, engineering drawings and specifications of complex machined parts.
- Inspects dimensions and understand tolerances (true position, run-out, concentricity, flatness, perpendicularity, etc.)
- Performs inspections by using manual hand measurement tools (height gauge, micrometer, bore gauge, profilometer, and other measurement tools).
- Inspects inbound material and purchased parts for conformance to company request, as well as conformance to customer specifications.
- Observes electrostatic discharge and safety practices. • Investigates production process variations.
- Submits Engineering Change Requests as they arise and substantiates reasons for changes.
- Ensures that all assigned tasks meet the departmental and corporate standards for quality and performance.
- Performs occasional receiving/shipping of material or product.
- Participates in continuous improvement initiatives including but not limited to Lean.
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the Quality Manager.
EDUCATION/JOB EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in manufacturing or machining certificate preferred.
- A minimum of three years’ prior experience in quality assurance required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings required.
- Previous experience with precision measuring instruments as listed in the responsibilities required.
- Ideal candidate will have working experience with coordinate measuring machine (CMM). • Previous machining experience is a plus.
- Must possess solid PC and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet scheduled deadlines and cost constraints.
- Ability to travel on occasion to vendor or customer locations for product evaluation or training.
- Willing to be trained and certified as a forklift operator.
- Able to develop and publish a quality manual for one or more departments.
- Must possess flexibility with changing work requirements.
- Must be willing to work overtime when necessary.

o Planning/Organizing Skills: Uses time efficiently and is flexible in assisting in other areas when help is needed. Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness. Completes work and manages workload according to due dates.
o Math: Basic knowledge of statistics, CPK, and PPK. EQUIPMENT OPERATED OR USED:
- Faro portable measurement arm
- Handheld measurement tools including outside micrometers, bore gages, inside micrometers, telescoping gages, height gages, profilometers, dial indicators, calipers and others.
- Forklift as necessary
