We are seeking a candidate who is INTERESTED and READY for a full-time Banquet Captain/Supervisor role to assist with full-service conferences and events. This is a leadership role. Professionalism, care for the business and our associates, sense of urgency and attention to detail are all attributes required for this position.

BASIC PURPOSE: Supervise banquet staff in the completion of the assigned functions and set-up, as well as oversee the service and break-down functions in a safe, accident-free manner.

FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Check server and houseperson BEOs to ensure that all information is accurate.
  • Check room set-up to see that BEO directions are completely followed.
  • Know the menu for each function served and be able to explain the major ingredients and preparation method for each item to be served.
  • Schedule and coordinate Team Members
  • Ensure that all public areas are neat and clean.
  • Make contact with group representatives. Explain how to make contact if needed throughout the function.
  • Communicate all BEO changes to catering office and affected departments.
  • Coordinate with banquet staff set-ups, changes and time schedules for all functions.
  • Verify staffing levels for the next day's functions. Adjust schedules accordingly through the addition or cancellation of servers/bartender/house-persons.
  • Operate as a banquet server when needed; setting-up, greeting and serving the guest and breaking-down the function.
  • Inspect banquet areas at end of function to ensure all equipment is returned to its proper area and all areas are clean.
  • Recap all banquet checks at end of day and submit to Night Audit if current policy dictates.
  • When needed, assist other departments and employees with any tasks requested by a supervisor or manager

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Education: High school education or equivalent

Experience: Two years of hotel banquet food/beverage service desired

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to physically complete the tasks associated with the position (see specific functions listed below)
  • Able to process paperwork and make employee schedules
  • Ability to read BEOs and communicate all requirements and needs found within
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and hectic environment efficiently and effectively

No. of employees supervised: One to Ten or more employees

Travel required: Local travel for outside catering functions as needed.

Hours Required:

  • Flexible; scheduled days and times may vary based on need.
  • Weekends and Holidays are essential.
  • Must adhere to the time and attendance policies set forth by the company

Physical Job Requirements

Lifting/Pushing/Pulling/Carrying

Position requires daily and frequent lifting, pushing pulling and carrying of items such as: carts, queen marys, hotboxes, trays of food, dish and glass racks, etc.

Bending/Kneeling

Position requires the daily and frequent bending and kneeling to perform the tasks required of the position. This includes bending to lower-level cabinets and banquet storage room, bending to lift heavy trays, kneeling to retrieve trash, dropped items, etc.

Mobility

Total mobility is required, with continued movement throughout the function and back areas expected

Continuous Standing/Walking

Continuous standing and walking is required for this position

Climbing Stairs

Position may necessitate the climbing of stairs

Driving

Usually, no driving will be required except if an off-premise catering event occurs

Work Environment:

Position will be primarily indoors, with the exception of an off-premise catering event, at which time extreme hot or cold temperatures may exist

Hearing /Vision/Speech

  • One-on-one communication with guests, supervisors and coworkers is critical
  • Must be able to receive, understand and give clear and concise instructions
  • Must be able to understand and clearly communicate BEO contents
  • But be able to visually inspect menu items, table service, room set-up and BEO details
  • Must be able to clearly communicate in both verbal and written form, including email

Chemicals/Agents

Use of cleaning agents for silver, stainless steel and floor surfaces, as well as basic cleaning supplies will be required

Protective Clothing Type:

Slip-resistant footwear will be required

Equipment Operation

Position requires the efficient use of coffee machine, hot boxes, ice machines, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners and other kitchen/banquet equipment
