Accountant

Summary: Responsible for the completion of a variety of financial support functions including bi-weekly preparation of payroll for the organization.  Responsible for oversight of billing and related processes. This person works with confidential information, so a high degree of integrity is required for the position.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Ensure EmBe brand, mission, vision, and values are reflected in all interactions.

• Review and maintain accuracy of information in payroll and timekeeping systems.
• Process bi-weekly payroll and maintain any related supporting documentation.
• Assist in the preparation of month end journal entries and duties.
• Assist in the budgeting process by populating departmental budget spreadsheets, evaluating assumptions, and monitoring budget performance on an ongoing basis.
• Monitor financials on an ongoing basis and review GL transactions to ensure accuracy
• Assist in the maintenance of various cash accounts and monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations.
• Compile supporting documentation and prepare monthly sales tax returns; prepare voucher for sales tax payments.
• Review statements and investigate discrepancies.
• Provide backup processing for accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Manage fixed assets and related depreciation entries.
• Assist with the preparation and monitoring of monthly budget statements.
• Assist in the tracking of grant activity, expenditures, and reporting requirements.
• Generate spreadsheets as required by different Directors.
• Assist with annual audit preparation and inquiries.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• Thorough understanding of GAAP
• Combined accounting experience and related education considered; non-profit experience helpful
• QuickBooks experience preferred
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Highly organized and detail oriented
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Professional demeanor required with high standard for confidentiality

• Ability to see, speak, and hear
• Frequent sitting with use of arms, hands and fingers on computer keyboard
• Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds
• Occasional standing and walking

Work Environment:

• Work is primarily performed in an indoor office environment. 
• The noise level is quiet.
