Description
To be a successful Foster Care Worker you must become able to do the following always:

Ensure a trauma informed focus on creating a safe and supportive environment for staff and those served through knowledge, sensitivity, respect, and a focus on resilience and recovery.

Provide support and supervision of Foster/Kinship Parents to achieve safety, well-being, and permanency for children in their care. Encourage/Support of increased number of foster/kinship homes in KS through partnership with the department marketing plan.

Ensure compliance to regulatory board requirements including maintenance of field training. Knowledge of DCF licensing standards for both initial licensing and on-going licensure for foster/kinship parents.

Model and encourage relationship building with biological parents and extended family members of the children in care.

Act as an ambassador with foster/kinship parents and natural contacts about the need for additional foster/kinship parents in KS, with the goal of generating increased foster/kinship homes to meet the needs of that community. Growth will be established through the involvement of existing foster/kinship parents as well as faith based and civic organizations to increase foster/kinship home recruitment.

Exercise discretion and judgement in the best interest of children served. Provide knowledge, skills, and tools to Foster/Kinship Parents to successfully function within the expectations and procedures outlined in the Foster Parent Handbook.

Demonstrate the willingness to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job within the competencies established for the position.

Participate in special projects in collaboration with state and community partners on an as needed basis.

Maintain timely documentation in agency electronic health record (uploading/completing) for both the children and foster/kinship parents according to Foster Care Department expectations. Complete required assessments including the development, evaluation, and recommendations of individualized plans for all children assigned to caseload.

Train and license foster/kinship homes through partnership with the pre-service trainer.

Follow Company Policy and Procedure and operate according to the Companys Program Practice Guidelines.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in social work or licensable degree.
-
Licensed with Kansas Behavioral Science Regulatory Board.

Prefer 2 years experience in child welfare.

Ability to travel, driving agency or personal vehicle including at night. Ability to do occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Able to walk up-stairs. Ability to work flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends. Employee is subject to outside environmental conditions occasionally, inside conditions frequently, with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature change.
