What are the responsibilities and job description for the Usher position at Emerald Downs?
General Description:
This is a meet, greet, and seat position that must always be done with a smile and a positive attitude.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- The focus of this position is to show patrons, who have purchased reserved seating, to their assigned seats and be able to mediate any seating disputes.
- Frequently monitor reserved seating areas throughout the day.
- Monitor for alcohol misuse (underage or over consumption).
- Keep order and neatness in the seating area during the day with additional cleanup at the end of the shift.
- Set out box seat chairs at the beginning of each shift and put them away at the end of each shift.
- Provide directions and answer questions about the facility.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Hospitable and friendly people skills, good communication skills, able to frequently walk up and down stairs, able to stand for long periods of time, indoors or out of doors, punctuality, dependability and a neat appearance. Prior knowledge of horse racing is not required to obtain this position, but an employee will be expected to put forth the effort to learn once employment has been accepted.

Work Environment, Communication & Physical Abilities:
Fast paced work environment with emphasis on customer service. Be prepared for weather conditions and providing excellent customer service for long hours. Communicate with leads, staff, and guests with courtesy and respect. Always be sure to help guests to the best of your ability. Physical abilities are, but not limited to:
- Sitting, standing, smiling, walking up/down stairs, and helping customers for long periods.
- The ability to lift, squat, bend, and twist your body.
- Able to occasionally lift, pull or push 25 lbs.
